European Road Trip 2025-Interested? (Provisional itinerary now posted)

Nice one Teresa. From the Grossglockner to Sopron, Hungary is about 5-6 hours drive, Zalaegerszeg another two hours on. Loads of options for places to stay. I use the Booking.com app when on the road although be good if we could all stay in the same place but may be difficult.
Your spelling is far better than mine 😂 I look it up and it's gone out of my head before I write it.
Looks like adding another couple of days to get to Zalaegerszeg would be about right to then give the two week folk time to get back by the end of the two weeks.

I reckon that's about 20?

Just to update everyone. I've put together what I think is a workable route for people who can only do a week. Starting on sunday 1 June, It takes in Nurbergring, Neckarsulm and the Glosslocker pass before turning back, arriving back in the UK on Saturday 7June. Chris is now checking how doable it looks and looking at a route onto Hungary and back for those who can do two weeks.
Once we have an outline route, we will publish that so people can start to book cross channel/north sea crossings and accomodation.
We will then do a bit more research into each 'leg' to get an idea of loo stops, fuel, places to get food and take photos
Better renew my passport 😀

If you don't go in city centers of big cities, no need to worry. E.g. Munich has some ULEZ zones. I doubt that the road trip will be routed through big city centers.

I am SO up for this. As much as I would love to do it in my A2, I also have a plan to do pretty much the same in my 800 Coupe, and was doing it next year for its 30th birthday.

I would love to see that 800 coupe. I remember sitting in one at my local Rover dealer showroom and being blown away by it. Kingfisher blue with cream leather (I think!)

So it’s now 2025. How do we want to plan this?

I’d be keen to get a session together, Teams/Zoom where we can look at places to book so we can remain mostly together at overnight stays. Beer and blether is what makes a trip for me.

Chris and I have been doing a bit of work on this. I'll see if I can post what we've come up with later today.
Basically got a 12 day route to and from from Hungary, spending a couple of days there before heading home. But the folk who only have a week to spare turn back after the Glosslockner pass.
I've built in suggested channel/north sea crossings from North, East and South so that the first night on the continent can be together. I've also suggested possible mid priced hotels based on location, reviews, decent sized carpark, breakfast being included and cheaper or more expensive hotels nearby.
I know Stena line have a sale on until early Feb (we will be Harwich to Hook) so hopefully e can then get ourselves booked.
If I post it, we could have a Teams call to chat through and amend as it will definitely need a sense check in terms of realistic distances to cover etc

Hi - so here we have some draft itineraries (they all aim to follow the same route - they just differ to accomodate different port crossings and overall length. E.g they aim to bring people together as quickly as possible as a group whether starting at Dover, Hull or Harwich - they aren't 3 different routes across Europe) for you all to have a look at and sense check please? I will caveat these with the following
  1. I have proposed hotels by looking at location, reviews and around £100 a night for a double room with breakfast. I don't know any of them and prices may well change. I have also tried to make sure that they are near other hotels if some people would prefer b&b type or more luxury. Please do feel free to suggest other places if you know the areas.
  2. We have tried to make the drives doable with one driver, but there are a few biggish ones in there (all distances are km rather than miles). I would appreciate a sense check where we are planning on stopping off on the way e.g. Neckarsulum e.g. a 3 hour drive, a few hours to look around (I did wonder if there was enough of us we could get a lunch out of Audi?) @Chris Warren could you check the bit into Hungary please
  3. There are no direct ferries from Scotland that I can see. Newcastle to Amsterdam is the nearest. It looks outstandingly expensive. So I haven't shown it separately but in terms of itinerary it is pretty much the same as Hull to Rotterdam (overnight ferries both ends). Costs of ferries are subject to change as that is the rate I was shown when researching.
  4. It was quite complex to do so there may be some errors - I get particularly muddled with German place names ( @Seb_Gurkyh I may need your help) (is Nurmberg and Nuremberg the same place?) have I missed out a section on one or more of the routes?

We wanted to give everyone the chance to do the Grosslockner pass as that looks stunning. if you haven't looked up a YouTube video this one is good

Each sheet has a 1 week and nearly 2 week itinerary on it. Please do have a look and let us know what you think. I think @mrbroons suggestion of a Teams call to discuss would be good and if people are in agreement, I will put a poll up for dates/times

Excited! :D

Certainly looks like a very tempting trip. Thank you Teresa for the research and putting together the itinerary.

You are correct there are no longer any car ferries sailing to the continent from Scotland. I remember taking one of my original A2's - TDi 90 Sport on the ferry which sailed Rosyth - Zeebrugge in 2002 for £25 each way!

Teresa, this is brilliant! I will digest it in the next day or so. Thank you!
