Morning everyone. I've been looking to buy an A2 and was about to place an order for a new car but I've just been offered the following deal on an ex-demo :

June 2002 TDi SE
2,500 miles
Metallic paint
Climate Control
Open Sky roof
DIS
Satellite cloth
Concert CD

Price is £13,750 but includes 1 years free insurance (apparently this is a deal offered by Audi UK currently on ex-demo cars) which is worth about £350 to me.

I've done the maths and this seems to be a pretty good deal to me, even though I'll be the 2nd owner in the log book and it will not be a '52' reg. Just wanted a reality check really - does the price look fair to you chaps ?

I've asked the dealer if this is a 'revised' spec car with the larger fuel tank etc. but he said that on the order sheet it was '02' spec. Does anyone know what else changed from '02 to '03' ? Were the damper settings changed at this time as well or was this just for the FSI ?

Many thanks.

I had a simular deal a few weeks ago, the car had only done 700miles and 3weeks registered 02 I must say I couldn't say no, especially compared to waiting 3 months for a new build and only £400 off the marked price just to get a black version of my car, I think it's a good deal!

With that many extras thrown on, it sounds like a pretty good deal.

There will probably be lots of comments about demos being thrashed. My parents always insist on buying demos - and they never have problems. I think most of the demos are not thrashed as there is a salesman sitting in on the action - and if there were any early problems, the dealer should have sorted them out by now.

My car was an ex-demo TDi SE. I got mine in October last year and the spec was:

Metallic paint
Climate Control
Open Sky roof
Satellite cloth
Chorus tape player

Believe, I payed much more than what they have asked you!
I'd say it's a good deal. My car had 3,500 miles on it and it definitely didn't look or feel as if it had been thrashed in anyway.

Shiner !

Go and buy it now, You can join a convoy of A2's soon in your area.

On a serious note its a pretty good deal, my very similar so I wouldn't bother in getting new due to waiting lists.

All the best

Thanks for all the input. There certainly seem to be some bargains around at the moment. I've been offered another deal for a similar spec, pre-registered '52' car with delivery mileage :

Sept 2002 TDi SE
0 miles
Metallic paint
Climate Control
Open Sky roof
Symphony 6xCD

£14,495 (plus 1 years free insurance)

It's more expensive obviously (+£745) but I guess the 52 reg will be worth slightly more when I come to sell it (?) Shame it soesn't have the DIS but the 6xCD would be useful.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll certainly be buying one of these cars today. Just got to decide which one :) Think I'll have a beer in the garden and mull it over.

i got offered a similar one from autobytel co .uk 52reg for about £13795 i think last week.

A2 1.4 Petrol
2002 Model
Exterior : Brilliant Black
Interior : Black/Black Cloth

Hi All

When I was shopping I used www.autotrader.co.uk and played around with multiple searches.

Then it's a case of dealing with the salesman :(

i'm test driving 1.6 FSI tomorrow at Executive Audi in St. Albans. not looking forward to the dreaded negotiations with the dealer......
i'll see what they offer and then call all the others near me.

from reading this forum there seems to be plenty of supply.

Mike, I've been talking to Executive as well (the Crystal Blue FSI in their showroom in looks v. nice) If you're ordering a new one, bear in mind that the Climate+Metallic offer expires pretty soon (end of play tomorrow I believe) Even with this offer you should be able to squeeze an extra 4-5% discount out of them depending on the model/options.

Good luck.

Pete

i believe that's the one i'm test driving tomorrow - crystal blue.

will let you all know how i get on.

Shiner,

I would go for the September new car. With no mileage on the clock you will not be forever wondering what previous possible abuse it might have received.

John, you're right, that would be the sensible choice - but in the end we decided on the 02 car because it was our first choice colour (Crystal Blue). Looks good with the Open Sky as well IMHO. We're picking it up from Bath next week :)

Late reply, but I think thats a good price. If you can confirm the history, and its sound, then buy it. Simple as that. :)

Very late reply I know, but for info/comparison, my '51'reg (Nov 2001) TDI SE with Climate, Pearlescent and 2800 miles on the clock was snapped up for £12495. Interestingly though, check out the Audi used car locator, my car was priced up £500 less than the forecourt price! The dealer in question - Smith Knight Fay, Stockport.

Martin

When were you told the CC/met paint was valid until October?? If this turns out to be true, I'll be having words with my dealer.

Audi Web site now says orders placed by 30 September (i.e. extended by two weeks) qualify for the £250 climate/paint offer.

Local dealer confirmed this date/offer to me by phone. He also said that they would not discount anything over this as they had no margin left. i.e. you'd pay list.

Interstingly the "drivethedeal" website show both the £250 offer and a 6% discount. Whether they can actually supply cars is another matter.

Rob -

It was on Saturday at Parkland Audi in Gloucester. I would point out that he thought the deal was on until October 16th - he didn't refer to any paperwork.

He also told me that the deal was partly funded by Audi and partly by the dealer; i.e. Audi contribute around £500 and the dealer contributes £500, which he claimed to be most of the dealer margin, leaving around £50. I asked why they even bother to sell cars for a £50 margin, seeing that they don't earn much out of servicing now that intervals are 18k miles/2 years - he replied that it's to get registrations up. At the end of the year the dealership gets bonuses based on the number of registrations.

That might also explain why some salesmen aren't very helpful when it comes to selling an A2, as they get bonus on the sale, but not on the end of year bonus.

Thanks Martin. I visited my dealer today and managed to get a spare wheel out of them free of charge after saying I didn't like the idea of just having a bottle of foam. This on top of the haggled discount goes someway towards making up the saving I missed out on with the offer.

As for delivery, maybe tomorrow,:D, maybe next week, so hopefully we will have it within the fortnight.:):):)
