Exhaust repairs

Me again,

During last MOT, it was mentioned that there was a crack on some part of the exhaust system, near the front, but that it was unreplaceable, and so it will cost £700+ to fit a whole new exhaust system.

Anyone else had this misfortune?

Did you have the car tested at the Audi dealers as they always recommend replacemend parts rather than a repair. If so, an exhaust specialist may be able to fix it at a fraction of the price.
On TDi's for example, the front pipe flexi section can fail and replacement of this piece is possible at a reasonable cost - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=79617&postcount=2
I think the same would apply to the petrol exhaust

Don't suppose anyone knows of reliable exhaust specialist in Tyne and Wear or Durham area?
 
exhaust flexi

it will probably be the flexi downpipe mine has gone twice now. just cut out the old bit and weld in another. that is much cheaper than replacing the whole pipe

I'm up in Tyneside and you can't go wrong with North Eastern Tyre and Exhaust at the Silverlink, just on the North side of the Tyne Tunnel.

They should be able to sort you out.

I've contacted one nearer to where I live, and made enquiries by email. They've given me a price, but I'll pop down next week to check out exactly what needs doing.

Turns out they could do it for half the price!

Anyway just been for MOT (mid June) and what was apparently an issue last year, wasn't even mentioned this year!

Good job I didn't pay Audi to do the job!

MOT time has arrived again and this time definitely do need a replacement front and middle section.

Any suggestions on guide price for the cost of these parts?

Try independent garage Volkparts (vw and audi specialists) at Meadowfield on the outskirts of Durham - always has excellent service and prices there.
 
Hiya

If you can get down to london, or arrange for someone to pick up from heathrow, im selling a complete exhaust for £95 without the manifold, or £150 with the manifold! (note that the items are used but in good condition, and they are for a 1.4 petrol!)
