Extract Turbo

Hi all
I've looked all round the site but cannot find the answer.
I have a very gunged up 110000mls 2004 1.4 90 Tdi. I want to get the turbo out and clean up. I cannot find how to do this. I understand you have to rock the engine forward to get at the turbo, possibly wedge with timber? What do I have to slacken and remove for this. The EGR valve is completely coked up. I have 17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation problems and want to get it all clean and nice!

First off

You need the following:

1. Elsawin and ETKA from eBay.
2. VAG.com to reset dash etc.
3. New Gaskets and nuts.
4. Turbo recon (Turbo Techniques’ Northampton).
5. Blanking plate for EGR Valve (Optional) or replace with bypass kit (Stealth Racing)
6. Remap to remove EGR Valve (See above).
7. Watch Youtube on how to clean manifold with a blow torch, it works!

You remove the vibration mount under the engine to be able to rock the engine.

You will get very very grubby from the manifold and EGR Valve and it is like TAR! Difficult to remove from your carpet, trust me I know!
I can’t tell how much of a sh*ty job this is. It took weeks to get it off my hands.

Blocking off the EGR Valve will look like a really good idea after all that cleaning.

It is a fiddly job you must use elsawin.
You will be working blind up the back of the engine.

I also bought some tools to clamp pipes and remove the clips.

Leave the turbo to a specialist, turbo techniques did mine. They actually manufacture the machines to balance turbos. I had a clean up of the variable vains and two new bearings £300ish

I would say it is a good 2 day job not including refurbing the turbo.

I would also recommend very close inspection of the black pipes to the turbo these may also need replacing depending on condition and they are not cheap.

It is quite a big job really.

Why will I need vag com, what parameter will have changed if I just re assemble?

To rock the engine is there anything else that needs to come off? (aircon intake / alternator / exhaust downpipe / pipe work not connected to the turbo)?
