Fault Code PO171

Having had a lot of work done on my A2 last year after the plastic vanes in the inlet manafold siezed I now have the engine warning light on again!

This time I spent a weekend making a homemade VAG-COM style engine analyser and managed to get the fault code PO171 from the ECU. :p

A quick web search indicates the engine is running too lean and the engine cant adjust any further to compensate.

Before I go pulling the air meter and its associated pipework apart looking for a leak, has anyone else had a similar issue or any ideas on where to check 1st?

Any assistance would be greatfully appreciated.

could be a faulty fuel pump or faulty or blocked fuel pressure regulator, or even just a blocked fuel filter? I guess all cheaper options than a MAF!

(speaking from a more generic sense, as I've got no real knowledge of the A2!!)

Many thanks for your advice.

I had a quick look through my copy of elsawin and identified what I thought was the MAF was actually the throttle valve, D'OH (better stick to electronics in future). Fortunately this was before I pulled it appart!

Checked all the connections were good (plugged in), wagled everything, failed to find a leak / split hose and went to bed. This morning the engine light has gone out. So either the cold has affected the mixture requirements and brought it in spec or the problem has gone away ..... no doubt time will tell.

I may take the air intake components appart tonight just to be sure. I have an MOT this week, so if the mixture's not quite right no doubt it will fail on emissions.

Thanks again for the pointers, will keep you posted.

PS The A2 is GREAT in the snow :D ABS, Traction, Stability... endless fun!
