Hi Frank,
Could you please let us know which engine is in this A2? Your profile states that you've got a 1.4TDI, but that could be out of date or you could have 3 A2s! Also, what symptoms has the car got, please?
The only online references that I can find for P1601 relate to low battery voltage.
All VW/Audi fault codes are usually five numbers, such as 01844. Here is the Ross Tech definition for that fault code...

P1601 is a more generic, cross-brand fault code that's a little vague. Is your fault-code reader able to get the proper VW/Audi 5-digit code?01844 - Ross-Tech Wiki

Thanks for reply, and apologies for lack of detail.
My engine is an AMF 1.4tdi, I scanned it as I was hearing a drone noise on acceleration, I have cleared the code and rescaned and all clear. I had a recent remap on the ecu, I thought this may have indicated low voltage?

Is your battery and alternator working properly? How old is the battery? Charge fully off the car then check voltage once on the car statically and again with the engine running. Clear all codes and leave the car for say 6 hours and recheck the voltages as above. If dropped then battery has had it. If alternator not pushing enough back then alternator faulty but battery could have a bad cell.
