Faults on my recently purchased A2

Hello everyone,

I hope this message finds you well.

Recently I interested myself for a A2 and bought it, when I bought it I was aware that the car had a comfort control module problem so I was able to get what I consider to be a good deal. Its a 1.4 gasoline model and have the symptoms bellow:

- Power windows do not open or close and last time they worked the driver window stayed open and I had it closed manually (this might be relevant on a doubt i will put bellow).

- The car only locks and unlocks with the key and not with the remote.

- The AC has gas and good pressure but it not blows cold air, which is bad as I have 4 closed windows in the middle of summer in Portugal. Im not sure but I think that this can be a side effect of has the driver window open and had it closed manually.

- When I turn the keys on I hear a couple of clicks that seem to come from the power window controller on the driver side.

- in aproximatly 320kms the ABS sign come on and the car got very sensitive into bumps and another suff on road activating the ABS imidiatly, but if I pull over turn the car off and on it goes back to normal.

- From time to time there is a steering sign on the dashboard and the powersteering seems not working properly as it gets a little bit heavier but again a restart solves it.

I love my A2 as a car that I will only use on my holidays here but my wife with all this problems does not share that love.

Guys I hope you can help me identifying the causes with your experience.

Thanks in advance

Pedro

You seem to have several problems which might be connected. I think the CCCU could be one of them.
A full scan would be a good place to start.

Not sure your version of A2 would have radio central locking fitted. Yep definitely a full VCDS scan needed. What were you told about the supposed cccu problem?

I can already hear @timmus salivating??

The previous owner told me that the car has radio central lock and also that the AC was working a few weeks ago when he was still driving it.

An information that can also be relevant is that the car has a aftermarket chinese radio with back camera....

Once again thanks for your input.

Pedro

@audifan the previous owner spoke me about the possibility of being a fault on the CCCU, I made a bit of research online and the symptoms matched... I met an electrician last week that is also convinced that that's it, he made a diagnostic test and all the Power window controllers (from all the doors) appear faulty on the test. This electrician suggested that we test my CCCU in another car on monday.

Sorry to drop this extra info in little pieces but Im trying to give all I've got so far.

I have no information if the problem started after the after market radio installation. Also this electrician told me that he managed to solve CCCU problems before once replacing one CCCU unit and the last time he was able to repair it. When he inspected this CCCU he noticed that the unit was to hot and didnt find any troubles withe the voltages and circuits.

There is a chance the aftermarket radio has been incorrectly wired in especially if it has been cut into the wiring loom. So yes there is a chance the aftermarket radio can be causing part or all of the problem.. It is certainly worth going through the fuse box and checking every fuse with a meter and replacing any that are blown. When I hear aftermarket I am always very wary as the A2 does some thing differently to other cars. If they do not know (or care) all types of issues can occur. Cheap not always better, but most things can be fixed. Does everything else work correctly as far as you know?

@audifan thanks for your effort to help. Yes I like to think that im reasonably good detecting faults in cars as I work with it and what I described is everything that I have noticed.

I noticed that the car when driving downhill for long distances without putting too much effort on the engine cools down very fast (60C) and if you go up raising the engine effort that the engine temperature goes back to normal (90C), but that seems to be normal.

Classic thermostat issue. Other thing is these cars MUST only ever be run on the correct coolant and even that can not be mixed with any other coolant. They need G12 coolant, that was replaced by G12+ which in turn was replaced with G12++ which yet again has been replaced by G13. So the coolant should be red / pink or purple.

I will definitely have a look into it but now my mind is set to solve the CCCU, do you guys think that replacing it I will solve the windows and AC issues?

The ABS and Power steering intermittent issues can be related to CCCU?

You really do need that full VCDS scan. It will provide you with more details on the problems .
The CCCU could well fix the windows issue but not the AC issue.
ABS and power steering again not CCCU.

When you have time have a look through threads on here that related to your issues. Use Google with " a2oc + what you are looking for"

Hello again,

I hope everybody is fine.

I did not manage to make de VCDS Scan, but we tested my CCCU in another A2 andit was working in perfect order. I spoke again with the previous owner and he told me that the electric problems started by the time that they installed the chinese radio... Tomorrow morning the electrician will uninstall the radio to understand if is affecting other components.

All the best

Pedro

Hello again guys,

today we turned off the radio and guess what... No, it was not the radio. :/

But after doing a new diagnostic test with another machine (Still not the VCDS) now we have a new error, thepower window controller of the drivers door, so tomorrow we will try to replace it and see what happens.

I'm starting to feel that the A2 is my holiday puzzle...

All the best to everyone

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is OK.

We replaced the CCCU and the power windows are now working but the AC is still not working (the system has the right gas pressure), also the ABS problems and power steering are still happening. The ABS extra sensivity is very annoying.

Best regards

Pedro

ABS check all the wiring is intact to the sensors and the sensors are not loose, look for corrosion around the sensors and inductor rings. Check your brake fluid. What colour is it? What is the fault you are having with the ABS?

Has the high pressure sensor on the AC been checked? Also in regards the power window issue Check the cabling from car to drivers door. With the continual opening closing of the drivers door cables can work harden and snap.
