Faulty key

What is the procedure for obtaining a new key and getting it coded? Is it dealer only?
There are a few members here, myself included, with the necessary knowledge and hardware to add additional keys. The only part of the process that I can't do myself is the cutting of the metal blade.

The title of this thread suggests that you have a faulty key. What exactly won't it do?

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I would like an additional key/remote for my tdi. Where can I get the blade cut? Whereabouts are you based? is there someone in the club near Bristol Bath who could do it? Also I'd like the original style unit rather than the teardrop style replacement we see about.

thanks

Chris

I use a chap called Jim Mann who cuts which ever blade you want from a photo, last one i had done was a flip key blade, only £7.50 including postage!

[email protected]
I send him a photo he replies telling me the cut cutting number (HAA XXXX) and asking which key/blade i would like and i reply and request a paypal request from him, pay him and have in the past had a key in my hand within 24 hours (no garantee thou mind just my experience!)

I also bought two used genuine remote key fobs from ebay off different sellers about £6-£8 with exactly the same part number and learnt all the fobs using a hella guttmam mega macs 56, dead easy and all work a treat!
Max you can have programmed is 4

Never had any luck with timsons when i enquired they would only do the whole job cutting and programing (was coding to immobiliser) think it was way over £100 for my previous vw so have since never bothered even asking them

Colin has provided a link to the 'resync' method. If this doesn't work, you could have a faulty fob. I've got oodles of them in stock, along with all the necessary hardware and software to marry a new fob to your car. You won't need a new blade cutting. If you're happy to pop across to Lancaster, I'll send you home with things fixed.

Cheers,

Tom

Interesting! Took mine to a Timpson's kiosk in a Tesco's carpark to be cut (after programming a blank fob from eBay wigankeystore2016). Charged me £5. Took a second one (making the first one was SO satisfying) and he did it, then refused to charge me, saying he wasn't really supposed to do it - but I left him £5 for a drink! So worth trying a different branch...
