Filling a diesel - vent in the filler neck to let the trapped air out???

Hi

It's been suggested that my diesel has a vent in the filler neck to allow total fill-up - it's a 2001 car. Can someone tell me where I can find this and how to use it?

Thanks

Has you stand at the filler look into the hole and just to the right just inside the neck, use a finger to find a small plastic type protrusion, press that with said finger and it will push inwards, that's the burp button.

cheers

Is this it...like a little hinged tube with a shiny tip
That's the beastie ? Hold it open with the filler nozzle for 5-10 seconds after the handle clicks off, then fill some more - gently. Repeat several times until you've had enough or until the fuel level doesn't go down any more with the vent.

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that the nominal 34L and 42L tank sizes in the A2 are actually a bit larger than that. Last night on my 2002 TDI with the same 34L tank as yours, I filled up 3 miles after the low-fuel warning, when the needle was still right on the last mark above the red. At that point, from opinions in previous threads, there is anything up to 7 litres left in the tank. I got 31.4L in, using the vent, to completely brim-full. While I might not believe it would hold 38L, I wouldn't argue against 36L / 8 gallons. Similarly I've squeezed 42L into my 42L one from 50 miles after the low fuel warning before, with the needle still above the red.
