Finally HID Headlights

The DRL is working fine and the Fogs also, even if I never use them.

Now I taken the next step to get a more modern Light set-up, I have installed HID Projectors.
I bought a Chinese Projector kit on Ebay: New 2.5" Bi-Xenon HID Projector Kit Lens Car Headlights 35W + Bulbs Relay Shroud for £53.
The only thin missing was the BALLASTS which I already had.
These HID projectors are Bi-Xenon and improve the High beam also.

The photo quality is not the best and the daylight gives a lot of reflections. But it gives a idea of the result. I will add some pictures from the headligts in nighttime operation.

I discovered that the headlight front cover are worn and create a lot of reflection. They should have been replaced while I had the headlights apart.

Looks like a great install. I imagine you have splitable headlamps?

All Headlights are splitable. Mine where glued together with Butyl rubber. I had to bake them 3 times before they where split apart. That was the hardest part but at least the headlights fitted in our oven. Glue them together was fairly easy.

Could you please guide me through the procedure? I've just recieved my projectors and as the headlamps are from a 2003 model they are glued.

I think these videos are instructive:

Bake at 270F or 130C at 10-15 minutes and repeat if needed. I had to repeat the baking 3 times. I used a utility knife to cut the bond between the front and back cover and used a flat screwdriver to bend.
When the headlight is split in two parts, the rest is easy.
Remove the glue residue.
To dismantle the headlight is easy.
I bought a Butyl Rubber band with 6 mm in diameter at a window repair/refurbishment specialist. 8 meter for less than £4

The band is easy to place around the back cover.
To get the two half's together again is also easy but to get them tight is harder due to the Butyl Rubber. I used two Ratchet Straps to press them together and placed the headlight in the oven as before. I repeated the procedure and pressed them together step by step.

.

how is that? I had just the dipped-beam bulb replaced with a xenon type. The ballast is now external of the headlight-shell. I think it is 5000K and there is a good improvement over the standard dipped-beam. When I operate the main-

beam, it is yellow and inferior. I would really like the same quality of lighting for both beams. How do I achieve that? Another pair of ballasts? What about the kit that you purchased from China? Please excuse my ignorance! I am just

aiming for the ultimate headlight conversion!

Inside the Bi-xenon projector is a solenoid, controlled by the High Beam signal. The solenoid moves a flap (or whatever is is called), that change the beam pattern.

I also inserted a H3 Osram Cool Blue Intense Bulbs to get a more similar look.

Not within the coming month. Tomorrow morning I will undergo a Hip replacement. (Left rear ball joint)

I did the same mod today!
About 55£ all in all.

Heating the oven.

In the oven for 20min, removing most of the glue, 20min baking, then it's easy as pie.

Looks really good.

I have a question for anyone who has done this. Which way should the cut off flap be? Should it be above the bulb or below when installed?

I'm guessing above, the projector doesn't flip the beam pattern does it?

I can't figure out how to install the projector lamp in the headlight with the metal cutoff plate being on the top of that makes sense.

There's a metal circular plate with a tab that needs to be pointing upwards when in the back of the headlamp. The only way the projector will slot into that is if the cutoff plate is on the bottom (below the bulb)

White filament on bottom on bulb silver tab to top.

Yep that makes sense thanks.

Now my next question... I can't seem to get the bulb to fit? H7 is way too fat, so I've stuck a hid h7r in, and that goes in the hole, but it sit too proud so the metal clip can't close and clamp it in properly.

Am I being really dense?

I also managed to accidentally joey mod it, turns out windowlene rubs the chrome off haha.

When I figure out how to post a picture on my phone I will stick one up. Ironically the easiest part by far was splitting the headlamp
