Our A2 goes in this Friday for its First MoT and I am just wondering if there is anything I should bring up with respect to warrenty items/issues...

I have informed them about the boot lock / alarm thingy...

Also... Should I go for the extended warrenty as some of you will know I had a new gearbox just short of a year ago and I wouldn't like to foot the bill if it went again... as it was only covered upto the end of the original warrenty period..

Well, if anything big went wrong you may still be able to get Audi to stump up a contribution to the repair. People seem to think that when a warranty expires, thats it. Not the case-goods must be made to last a decent length of time-a £14k car that break after 3 years and 6 months could be said not to have been built to a decent standard.

However, do you really need the hassle, car off the road etc whilst you and Audi slog it out.

How much is the warranty? Is it Audi's own, or a 3rd party? Can you buy a 3rd party warranty off-the-shelf or does it have to be bought via a dealer when you buy a 2nd hand car?

Audi warranty very expensive, mine is about £140 from memory, through the csma, but it's car care, which most main dealers use(not sure about audi), and less than half the price

Not to sure about the cost (but its going to be alot) will find out tomorrow, I have till the end of the year to choose...

Its the Audi warrenty and they say its an extention of the original and as such to the same extent of cover...

It PASSED the MOT....[25]

The warrenty for the 4th year £472..

Needs to go back to have the boot lock replaced (under warrenty)..

£472 seems a lot to me. It's more than my car insurance which covers me for total loss and I hope I am quite unlikely to have to claim on it this year. Whereas the warranty, if used would cover lower value repairs and is also unlikely to be used....if we all believ Audi's build quality claims. If Audi thinks it manufactures a high quality car, let's see this in the cost of it's extended warranties.

The AA do what appears to be a comprehensive warranty for about £145 - see their website for info. A friend used it to get a new turbo and manifold for a smart - total cost in excess of £800.

Nep-few (sic)used BMW's own £570 extra year warranty and successfully had £1,750 worth of minor work done during the extra year!

Yep, a friend of mine with an X5 paid his £570, but had £3k worth of repairs during the year. Did you see that BMW are charging £150 per hour in London for labour? As you say yer pays yer money....
