Intermittent faults are always a PITA. Have you tried clearing it? Does it come back immediately? Other than the scan what are the other symptoms? Dash warning light perhaps.

Dash light always on.. clear it and comes straight back ?

mechanics own diagnostic device doesn’t see it at all (as if no fault to clear, dunno what set up he uses) but friend’s vcds shows the screenshot above

I suspect it is more likely a loose connection rather than the controller at fault. Possibly one of the under seat connectors. Unfortunately this has now side tracked from the original thread and would certainly be more useful on its own thread.
