fitting audi tt front seats

Guys, apologies, as seat bracket manufacture hasn't gone to plan.
Soooo here are details of what I fabricated. All from 40 x 8mm steel, as I wanted drilled and tapped brackets rather than using thinner material with nuts.
Note. My seats were offset towards the doors, ie directly over the door side runners, which offsets the seat from the steering wheel. It never bothered me, but I think if offset towards the centre console, then the complex rear bracket would become just a spacer plate and the opposite rear bracket becomes an offset plate.
You will need one off each of the 4 brackets per seat. Just be careful about handing left or right with the fabrications.
Hope this makes sense, but if not, ask away!

Excuse my ignorance if this is a silly question
Do your seats on the front mounting bolt thru the runners in to your bracket (with threaded hole and 9mm hole drilled in bodywork to allow clearance for said bolt) opposed to at the end of rail where they would have done so on the tt factory fit?

Cheers

Interesting comment. I just assumed the runners would fit flush at the front, hence the clearance hole for the screw. From memory the runner would have to shift a fair way back to avoid drilling a clearance hole?

No they don’t use the original mounting holes for the TT seats.

No dont get me wrong i have no issue with a 9 mm hole being drilled was simply trying to clarify in my mind the different ways folk have successfully installed the TT seats please dont think it was a critism!

Evening Bob,

It’s a shame that your potential supplier is unable to assist right now. I’m quite sure Cutting Technologies (who supplied the bespoke footrests for us) will be more than willing to take this work on.

We’ll need someone to produce your drawings into CAD File format but believe there’s a few who might be able to jump in. My nephew might even be able to do it if no one is willing to assist.

With Cutting Technologies minimum order figure at £150 along with the size of the brackets, I’d say that you’d possibly get between 30 to 40 sets for this £150 minimum price.

Pretty sure there are plenty of members with a mig welder who could join them for you. I’d certainly be up for a set for a future project.

Is this another group order begging to be started?

Quite happy to see someone else take the lead but more than happy to assist. I have a few other ventures bubbling away right now so would find it a struggle to fully commit to it but could come back to it if need be. Just depends on if there really is a demand for up to 40 sets of Bespoke A2-TT Seat Bracket Adapters.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom, appreciated.
I think we need to decide on which way the seat is offset. If offset towards the centre console, then a revised bracket will be required. This will be a plain plate, with one hole drilled, and one tapped. It would replace the more complicated U shaped bracket.

Perfect Bob,

So guess the question now is who would like to see this turned into a Group Order. Ive seen some Mk1 TT seats available for next to nothing near my work so I'd be interested in seeing whats possible and guess that these are becoming a bit cheaper to obtain these days.

No obligation at this stage of course, just a simple 'like' will suffice for now. If there is enough interest then I'll start a specific Group Order Thread and transfer the likes into names on the list. I cannot see these being an expensive item, probably similar to the footrest, possibly a little more (but not by much) as the material used will be a lot thicker.

Once we understand if there is a demand then the next question would be what does the community think about the offset of the Seats, towards the Centre Console or more towards the associated doors. This can be answered later on if we get to the stage of starting a fresh Group Order thread.

This could turn out be a great little venture to kick the New Year off.

Remember, only 'like' if you would like to see Bob's @Jellybean drawings turned into a Group Order.

Kind regards,

Tom

Favouring the outside rail should make for a better finished look i would imagine (and make hoovering down the side of the center consol far easier!)

I don't know if a comparison with the very similar set of brackets which Bob made for the A3 8L seats is worth making at this point. I guess it all rather depends on the widths between the rails and the widths overall of those seats compared to the TT ones.

But for what it's worth, when I had the 8L seats in my A2's, the U-shaped rear brackets on the inner rear mounts stuck out quite noticeably into the rear footwells. This isn't intended as any form of criticism, Bob had made them really well, that's just how they had to be to fit those seats. I felt the seats also sat a bit too close to the doors, which made using the adjustment buttons difficult while on the move.

I was able to cut up a set of A2 mounting covers to work with the outer rear mounts but could only cover half of the inner ones. I was always aware that there were still sharp corners exposed underneath the front seats. I don't know how well it would work with mounting the TT seats closer to the centre, but if it would remove that issue and also the seat offset, that sounds like a good suggestion.

A point to consider is the room for the seat air bag to deploy correctly in the event of an accident.

The outer rail should prevent any issues here i would have thought
Interesting to know the dimension of an original A2 leather seat gap between the air bag area and the side of the car compared to fitting a Mark 1 / 2 TT seat or other type of seat and the gap.
I have just checked the A2 SE with the cloth seats which are 230mm from the centre to the air bag side plus another 90mm gap to the inside of the car.
The leather Mk 1 TT seats I have ready to install are narrower at 200mm from the centre to the airbag side, so the would be some room for an offset to the outer side of the car.
All dimensions are of course approximate.
Hope that helps somewhat.

Morning all,

I have some spare time between meetings this afternoon and can make initial contact with Cut-Tec about how many sets they might’ve able to produce from one sheet.

I’ll not move forward with a new thread and group order just yet as need more provisional (no obligation) interested first. The count so far is 7 out of a potential 27.

Are there anymore takers for Bob’s drawings going into production.

Kind regards,

Tom

I’d want a set but I’m
Not sure if I’ll be willing to wait for them… I mean we talking probably 6months? What’s a rough timing as if worst comes to worth I’ll attempt to make something my self

Afternoon,

If this goes ahead as a Group Order then it can happen very quickly. All we will need to do is confirm the offset and find someone willing to convert Bob's drawings into a CAD File format (@depronman?). Soon I transmit the CAD Files to Cutting Technologies, they usually have the order delivered to me in Leicestershire in a few days.

Not sure they'll drill and tap the holes though buy certainly laser cut the drill hole locations.

It can happen pretty quick but before I go ahead with putting such an order together Id need to have interest in all 27(ish) really. I'd rather not have loads of spare sets sat in my garage which Ive paid for that might take some time to recoup my funds.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom I'm sure you're busy with handbrake cables just now...but I'm wondering if we have any indication of cost for these brackets please, might get us nearer the 27 needed if that was available. Sorry if it's mentioned and I've not seen... Cheers

Evening Nod,

Yes this has taken a back seat unfortunately.

I was hoping for someone to jump in to assist with providing the necessary CAD files to get them produced by Cut-Tec. I’m unable to proceed without them as it’s the first thing Cut-Tec will ask for before they offer an authoritative quote. I know that Cut-Tec will only provide the plates as per the files, they’ll not tap the holes but that’s easy enough to do yourself. Before we get the files ‘drawn up’, the majority need to decide upon where to have the seating position offset. It’s something I could come back to but just as happy if someone else take it on if there is demand right now.

Having recently taken on Project RN53 and it requiring more time than I have right now along with the footwell mats group order I feel I’m spreading myself thin, so might struggle for the next month or 2 to fully commit to something else.

I’ll no longer be looking to fit TT seats now but I’d happily continue this possible venture once Project RN53 is successfully through a MOT. In the mean time a decision on the offset needs to be made, the CAD files produced and interest to reach over 25 sets. Does anyone reading this have the capacity to take this on. Bob @Jellybean already has most, if not all the answers which need to be supplied to Cut-Tec in the correct format.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom,

I can produce a CAD file from drawings pretty sharpish. Just drop me a DM
