Hi guys
Just sorting out what I need to be able to get my arms changed to cast ones.
What parts are needed other than the arms to enable this job to be done?
Thanks

Afternoon Darren,

I know David @dj_efk has recently had this worked completed on Merlin. Hopefully he is along shortly to give you a shopping list.

I’m sure he started a post about it actually but for some reason I cannot find it right now. Try here for a summary from David.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hey guys. Thanks Tom for looping me in.

The sticky post on this with all the info is here - CLICK!

I will double-check with DS Motorsport but I believe it's all there.
No problems David,

I know you’re all over this subject right now after recently giving Merlin some very nice detailed pampering. Whilst mentioning Merlin, you should have a delivery shortly!

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Darpod, I replaced mine two years ago, a few new tools were bought but mainly everyday spanners and a set of axle stands ... not sure if the link below will be any use to you.

One thing to bear in mind with this change is the future cost of bottom ball joint replacement.

Cast arms= changing the whole arm.
Pressed arms= change just the end at a fraction of the cost.

Tony.

That’s very true Tony? ....but one of our old a2s had 117k on original ball joint that’s a good few years motoring not sure what the expected life would be depending on motorway driving v potholed country roads I would suspect ..we have mainly the latter ?

Hi Tony ... is there much difference in price between the cast and pressed arms?
Looking back on some of the members posts, the pressed arms seem prone to rust, I wonder if the structure of the newer pressed arms would fail before the ball joints ...
Cast ones for me every time, originals lasted 188,000 miles and sixteen years before the MOT inspector advised (off the record) that I had slight wear on one ball joint, the arms were still in good condition though.
I'll light the touch paper and walk away ???
