Hi All Is it possible to fit full DIS from a 1.6FSI to a TDI 75 , I know the Rev counter is different and programming will be required etc but is it all swappable I have a Donor FSI to work with.
TIA

Evening,

Help me understand what you’re actually trying to achieve: Are you wishing to upgrade from a TDI Half DIs cluster to a FSI full DIS cluster or just wanting to swap a TDI DIS cluster to a FSI DIS cluster due to a fault with the TDI item?

Whatever the answer is means that there might be additional steps to take but to simply answer you question: Yes this is entirely possible and have done it a few times now. The instrument clusters that currently reside in both my 2001 Jaipur TDIs (Project EUD and EYV) that now sport the stunning 3DcolorMFD screen (Colour DIS) actually started life as an instrument cluster from a FSI.

All I done was copied a later generation TDI EEPROM readout to the FSI instrument cluster then matched it to the vehicle (ECU) with VCDS. To obtain the EEPROM/firmware readout, adjust the odometer and grab the SKC requires more than the usual VCDS diagnostic software and headware but easy enough to do. There is plenty of information on how to do these kind of task scattered over the internet.

If your confident enough to complete the above processes (which I e deliberately not explained in detail) then there is one final hurdle you may have to overcome… Depending on the year of your TDI, the fuel gauge may not read correctly with a FSI cluster. This can be easily solved with 2 options available to you, one requires adjusting the fuel senders wiring and the other is to simply swap the fuel sender board over.

As you have already mentioned, you’ll have to swap over the scales then calibrate the pointers/needles but again plenty of information on the Ross Techs Forum and elsewhere on the internet on how to do this. I also think there is also a great guide somewhere on the clubs pages too.

For now I won’t explain in any further detail but you can certainly use a FSI cluster in a TDI and the opposite way around too.

Edit: If the TDI in question is your 2005 TDI BHC then there will be no requirement to mess about with fuel senders. It’ll be quite fine as it is. Just need the laptop work with then different software solutions to get the FSI cluster setup for use in your TDI.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

A few pictures and links which back up my information above and could be useful:

Hopefully this and the previous post helps out and answers your questions. If not then get in touch. Where are you located within the UK as our paths may cross and it would be good to finally meet.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom Thanks for your Reply , That Colour DIS looks Ace!
Where did you get the White Clock backgrounds from ?
So the TDI Currently has a fully functional Half DIS , But like the Idea of have the full one mainly for readouts and just cosmetically also. and having a Donor FSI available.
My Car is indeed a BHC code

Hello,

No problems at all and more than happy to help out. All the information above is freely available across the internet; all I’ve done is collated it into a single post for you. Let me know where you’re located as I might be able to help out if you don’t have the correct tools for the necessary adjustments required.

Yes the 3DcolorMFD really is a brilliant choice that sports so much visible information on each of its 10 customisable screens. Having had Half DIS, Full DIS and ColorMFA, I must say that this version is my favourite. Nothing wrong with any other option, just my personal preference.

The white dials are from a mixture of Audis from the same era. The left hand scale (RPM) is from an A6 4B 2.5 TDI V6. The rev counter goes up 6k which is 1k higher than the A2 TDI so the EEPROM/firmware requires adjusting so the stepper motor displays correctly. The right hand scale (MPH, temperature & fuel gauge) is from an A3 8L 1.8 Petrol. The MPH reading goes up to 160mph whereas the A2s cluster only goes up to 150mph so again the EEPROM requires adjustment so the stepper motors display correctly.

Your BHC engined A2 will be just fine utilising the FSI instrument cluster after a firmware update. Quite easy to do if you have the correct tools.

I’m only a message away should you require any further assistance.

Kind regards,

Tom

Another option I Have is a Full DIS from a 2003 AMF TDI to fit into a 2005 BHC TDI half DIS ? Are there any sensors etc on the AMF that would be additional to add on the BHC , I understand Stalks and coding for Keys Mileage but apart from these?
plan would be to fit the Half DIS into the AMF from the BHC and AMF to BHC.

Evening,

Apart from requiring specific apparatus adjust the EEPROM readout which I’ve loosely explained in earlier posts within this thread, the simple answer to your question is yes these can be swapped between the 2 vehicles.

For the time and effort involved to swap these between the 2 vehicles, would it not be better to just upgrade the Half DIS vehicle to Full DIS, this way you’re only adjusting 1 vehicle which would be cheaper in the long run.

Kind regards,

Tom
