Car is running as good as always but the glow plug light has started to flash. Any ideas? Themanual just says get it looked at.

make sure rear brake lights are both working when brake pedel is pressed, if not check bulbs, if these ok its likely the break light switch

after that you need a vagcom /vcds scan

I had this a while ago. It was a blown fuse, im not sure about what fuse.

Good suggestions thank you. Checked today and brake lights are not working. The fuse is good. Should I check the bulbs next as neither is working? Or is it more likely the switch? If so where is it? :p

That will be your brake light switch. Its positioned up behind the brake pedal.

My brake light switch was intermittently faulty and this was the symptom. Glow plug.

I put some contact cleaner on and pulled it in and out a few times and then reseated it so that there was a small amount of pedal travel before the plunger was touched and Bingo! I still have the new one to fit but it’s been okay for four months so far from that quick fix.

Hi all.
Chalk up another driver with flashing glow plug light on dash. Just scanned car, and yes another Brake switch fault.

I find it always seemed to come back but took months to do so. For the sake of a new OEM one listed at 12 quid from ebay I just fixed it permanently. For info to last poster (@stevec ) I found the Febi one didn't quite do the job as well as the OEM brake switch. Cruise control did not disengage quite as well - the pedal had to be pressed down more firmly to disable which I guess also meant that sometimes the brake lights weren't going on when your foot was only braking lightly.

@CreweAudi can supply a genuine one for £26 delivered FYI. Pain the backside but simple job. Do try removing and agitating the plunger though as worked as a temporary fix whilst I waited for mine.

My luck has been disastrous over past couple of weeks. Not going to touch it, or drive car. Luckily i have use of wifes polo for work transport. A2 is parked up in garage until new switch arrives.
Thanks for info though.

Other thing to note is when changing or even working on the brake light switch there are a couple of metal brackets and pressings in the area that have VERY sharp unfinished edges that can cause nasty cuts. Please wear suitable gloves and take care in this area. Also agree so called OEM quality is no where near as good as it used to be and would also only fit a switch from Audi and not a claimed OEM from a parts supplier.
