Flashing EML

Today I drove from eastbourne to Weymouth and back, on the way their no problems at all. On the way back again no problems at all! EXCEPT! My engine managment light kept flashing, I couldn't notice any difference in the performance of the car but what I eventually noticed was that if I sat under 60mph at a steady pace it would flash but if I drove at 60 or above at a steady pace the light stayed out!? Thankfully Iv made it home and it seems to be running fine. Ill get It diagnosed Tuesday when I'm back at work but I though I'd ask on here if any one would know what might be the cause as I have to drive from eastbourne to London Tuesday morning before I can diagnose it. Once it stopped flashing the light stayed out, and was off once I started car up again when I got home???? :s

Thanks

Scott

Hi Scott a flashing EML indicates an emissions problem. At below 60mph you are probably in the engines "stratified" faze I every lean. Above 2800 rpm the engine runs conventional injection cycle. So it could be a sign of blocked fuel filter or a sensor in the exhaust going bad. Until you get home to see any codes generated it should be fine to drive as normal.
Hope you find this of help and good luck sorting it.
Cheers mike

Thank you a2 sumo, actually a while ago the EML light was on and it was a problem with the front cat?? The light never came back on and it passed its mot so I forgot all about it, so that does make sense.

Thanks again least its ok to drive for the moment

I had it diagnosed today, not quiet Tuesday after last bank holiday! And my mechanic mate hasn't got a clue, it saying cylinder 2,3,4 are miss firing but the car is running fine! Also he said It counts the miss fires and their was hundreds????

Any ideas :s

Thanks

Scott

hmmm scott do i dare say "injectors" there i have said it. My fsi showed misfires for a few months before it just decided to not run at all. They are over £120 each though and it involves the intake being taken off to get them out. I would suggest trying sea foam in it to see if you can clean them out--but i suspect its more mechanical wear that kills them.
good luck mike

:( thanks mike, I had two injectors go a while back and had them fixed but when they went it run real bad??

I've just put a new fuel filter on it, the fuel that came out of the old one was filthy! Hope that's the problem? :((
