Flashing engine management light - intermitent

Hello,

I'm sure theres already a thread on this somewhere, but can't find anything thats this specific. Tonight on the way home the engine management
led flashlights started to flash but with no noticeable problems. eg no hesitation when hitting the accelerator. Also to make things more confusing the flashing engine management light kept going off during the journey.

I wondered whether its come on due to a low level fluid, coolant for example.

Doesnt really make sense to me, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Audi A2 1.6 FSI Sport 2005
Same situation arises last weekend. I ask my mechanic friend to check and it was all due to low fluid level. Nothing serious at all:)

Hope that's true for you, but, if it IS, the 'Yellow engine' light that is 'flashing' I believe you may be heading towards the need to new coil packs. Get it scanned and see which coils packs are showing intermittent misfire! (referring to the 1.6FSi engine here)

Cheers

What fluid was low? Coolant? My light is flashing now but running fine! It's worrying as I don't know how reliable my car is at the moment!

I'm having exactly the same problem, just over a week ago my EML kept flashing, I did a scan and it was coming up misfires in cylinders 2,3 and 4.

The car was due a service so I've replaced all 4 plugs and coil packs, fuel filter and the air filter. I've just put in some Fuel injector cleaner and will run this through over the next week or so and let you know how I get on. Stangely enough the EML only flashes at low RPM or IDLE but the car is running like a dream

cheers

David.

Becky, you'd have been better off starting a new thread rather than bringing this old one back from the dead.

I can see that you've only recently bought your car so let's start with the basics. When did your EML come on? Are you aware that the FSI absolutely requires 98 RON petrol?

It came on 7/8week ago had it plugged in codes state random misfire 134 but no misfire have changed the coils plugs done a service cleaned earth's and sensers had a compression test done all normal on test I'm am goi g to due a new maf senser put redex in and injecter in Tuesday this week a week after I filled up and put redex in I use unleaded petrol apart from eml on she runs fine not lumpy at all

You need to use super unleaded petrol in the FSI if you want the EML to stay off.

Have you sorted out your exhaust yet?

OK ty for you advice you seem to be the only person that's helped and not give me horrid comments have done a temp fix on exhaust I have queried if it could be the small hole in back box causing it to come on as well

From the description in your other thread, it definitely sounds as though your whole exhaust needs replacing. A failing exhaust can certainly trigger an EML light . The misfire you're seeing on your scanner may also be triggered by a choked exhaust.

The FSI is an exceptionally difficult car to get sorted and I really would encourage you to seek professional advice from an independent VAG specialist before committing large sums on this car.
