FM Radio Reception

I only listen to the radio in my car, thus my contentment with the Chorus unit fitted to my A2. But the radio is the worst thing i have ever heard - the FM reception is dire. I dunno if you call it interference, there is no static as such but instead the sound cuts out every now and then (just the sound the unit remains on at all times) only for a millisecond or so but enough to spoil the musical moment. Is this normal?

My Car is a 1.4 import and i was thinking my unit didn't have the Diversity Unit installed (whatever that is) Is there a way of making my radio reception better as the drop outs are becoming increasingly annoying.

I had exactly the same with my unit. If I remember correctly, there is a connection between the rear windscreen (where I believe the arial lives in the heating elements) and the head unit. This is not necessarily the connection just behind the head unit, but somewhere towards the rear.

Somehow the connection was loose and cause the FM reception to cut out every so often, or I could only get more "powerfull" transmissions e.g. radio 1 and not a local station.

Is yours still under warranty?

Yes the car is still under warranty - so you think it is just a loose connection? I have to take my car to garage anyway as i tried to get a CD changer fitted but one side of the head unit would not come loose - the guy fitting it said that one of the pins of the cage holding the unit was probabely bent! I hope they put this right under warranty too.

So much for German workmanship - i've had my car only a month and just the other day my mobile battery ran out so I parked the car up to use my in car charger and the A2 started making electrical/mechanical noises - i thought it was halloween!!

Well my FM reception was like going through a tunnel-it would dissapear for a second or more then come back. Dealer took radio out etc, new head unit etc and didn't cure fault. Had it in overnight and eventually realised it was this loose connection, not behind the head unit but somewhere else under the carpet/towards rear of vehicle. Dealer will know where.

So what noises were these and when did they happen? When you plugged in the charger? Were the noises via the speakers or somewhere else?

i turned off the car engine but kept the electric supply going, plugged in the charger and the car made noises i hadn't heard before. a low clunking noise by the engine department for a good 10 seconds. Could have been the fan but it sounded heavy like a bolt being shut, it sounded also abit like the noice the boot makes when you remotely open it. Is this normal?

Starting to regret trading my 5 year old clio for the A2 now!!!!

Possibly the climate control closing vents etc-but shouldn't be that noisey.

Of course we cant hear the noise, however I guess Steve is right. The A/C logic resets the door closing position every 7 operations (if my memory is correct) in order to ensure no air leakage. However, the noise isn't acceptable even to AUDI. Take my word for it - AUDI QA are very critical of these accuator noises - I have had many headaches with this issue in the past when developing the A/C units for the A6 and new A8.
