Foil heat shield over rear exhaust box

cool - great photo. So from this angled shot, the tank is 'below' the axle?

and whilst we're looking at this photo - what is the rectangular box with fluted heat distribution casing - just to right (in this photo) of the silencer?
Thats the fuel cooler.

I suspect the rubber used for exhaust hangers is designed for higher temperatures than that designed for expansion bolts. Rubber is very flexible term. Mostly not rubber at all.
Mac.

Quite right.

I’m a chemist so I’m slightly ashamed of myself for being so non-specific.

The well nuts I’ve got are a neoprene rubber mix so are probably okay to 250c.

I’ve used some EPDM for an exhaust hanger for a Webasto before (on a camper) and it seemed to survive fine - it’s only good to about 150C. It was connected on a metal bracket about an inch from the exhaust pipe itself.

I don’t know what type the exhaust hanger is so perhaps it’s a silicone mix rubber. Google says that’s good up to 300C.

I guess you’d know it wasn’t okay when it melts but none of the mounting points for the heat shields are really that close to the exhaust are they?

I’m sure Mike will provide results.

and drilled straight into the battery - "oh, it's just water from a leak....no, it's burning my skin and neck where it splashed me".....thank heavens that it didn't get into my eyes!

Never in a million years would I have thought that the plastic was actually the boot floor! what a wally
