Hi!
I bought my A2 in June last year, it then had 23000 miles since it was it was first delivered in May 2001. The dealer did a service thingy before I picked it up, and it said that there was 15000km (~9300miles)until next service. Since then I've driven about 4000km(2500 miles), however the indicator now shows 4200km(2600 miles) until next service. How does this add up? Shouldn't it be 15000-4000=11000km until next service?

Hi puppes
This is a bit spooky...I got my A2 a week ago. IT has done 23000 miles from new Oct 2001. It was last serviced Nov 2002 (milage was 13643). Computer printout declared next service due Nov 2004 or 32643 miles. Yet my service indicator says it needs servicing NOW! When I queried this with the dealership he told me that the service intervals vary wildly on the way in which the car is driven/used. He said a car that is being constantly used on long trips (ie motorway use) doing 70 or 80 mph will achieve a 19000 mile service interval. Subsequently, hard driving, town use and short trips where the engine hardly gets a chance to reach normal operating temp. are all contributary to short service intervals ! The onboard computer apparently anylyses the quality of the engine oil and this defines the service interval accordingly...
So, have you been driving your A2 like an F1 driver! ? Have you clocked up YOUR milage by short trips or town use?

Hope this helps...

Mark

Mankind's basic personality is defined by weather he finds it easier to be cruel or kind...me?...anyone want a pint?

My car has done 21k and is showing that it wants a service in another 11.5K miles, am seriously thinking about booking it in for a stand alone oil service as most cars on a normal service routine would have had two services by now any views?

What is the longest duration other owners have seen between sevice intervals?

Hrmm, well, I actually only use it for short trips, usually between 5-10 miles sometimes even 30! :) Still I drive pretty sensibly and not like a F1 driver...so I think the service intervals seem a bit much, every 5000-6000 km is a bit too often for a £200 service

A similar thing happened to me as well. 2 weeks ago my service indicator said service due in 800 miles. 1 week and about 100 miles later it showed 600 miles, and now - only another 100 miles on, it says its due in 300 miles. Presumably this is down to my short trips and town driving as Methenyman rightly pointed out, but the car's last service was 18 months ago in August of 2002 so its about time it had it done.
