Front exhaust system change out

Hello Everyone,

This is my first thread even though I have been reading the forum for a while. I took my 1.4 petrol 2001 A2 for its yearly MOT to the Aberdeen Audi dealer. They phone me back to tell me that the car failed its MOT, they found a leakage in the front exhaust system the part that has in it the catalytic converter. I agree to repair it, but the charge me £400 for the exhaust and almost £200 for changing it.

This type of repair is always that expensive?

They are not called 'slealers' for nothing! I paid £250 for my cat and it should take no more than an hour to change as it is all fairly accessible I believe (I wait to be corrected). Mine is a TDI but I don't think that it would make a huge difference in the price. I will point out that mine is not a genuine Audi part but it is doing the job very well (3 year guarantee).

Sorry to say; I think you have become another victim of MAIN DEALER Rip-off!!.
Not much can be done now, but in future learn from your mistake. In future do try and find an 'Idependent Garage', find someone in your area who could recommend one (if possible) and always ask for a Quote, prior to having any work done, the AUDI 'hourly' rate charged is now in the £85/86.00 per hour, Independent garage should be half this!! i don't mean to be a pain,( just have to say it like it is,) yet do have a HAPPY NEW YEAR and hopefully a less expensive one, Cheers ALAN.
 
jairocarmona, well come to the club and seasons greetings!

But looks like you haven't been following the club long enough ;-) ! Otherwise you would know most of us would try to stay away from the dealers for repairs. TBH, MOT is even worse because they think they can take you for a ride saying it failed MOT, must be fixed and charge you whatever. Your parts would be charged at RRP but they could still have ordered more parts than required, hence more labour. Best ask for the damaged part(s), at least to make sure all of those were actually damaged and required replacement.
