Front lower bumper/undertray question

Hi all,

Could someone tell me whether the black plastic lower part of the bumper can be replaced without doing the whole bumper? Previous owner must have caught it on a kerb one too many times, and it has a split down the middle, and it has also ripped the fixings for the undertray. Any help appreciated.

P.S. My damn oil leak is back with a vengence. Got to take it in again, as its losing it quite steadily now. (Just had my remap done as well :sob: )

Unfortunately, the matt black part of the bumper is integral with the coloured part and is all one piece.

The cost of a new bumper is about the £170 mark, plus painting although splits can be fixed by some of the mobile repairers you see about now a days, so give them a call and see what they can do for you.

The undertray is not too easy to fix, as it is of a fibrous nature. I'm none too sure of the cost, but can't imagine it being that much.

If you're taking it in soon, ask the parts guys for a quote.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I was only going to replace it if it was going to be easy. I've got it attached again with large washers, just need to seal the split. I'll have a go at the weekend.

No worries - I have a similar problem with my front bumper - it has become a little mis-shapen and used to not mate up with the undertray, until Robin applied a couple of self-tappers!!

Cheers,

I tore mine on the front corner, chipsaway welded it back and painted it, cost me £100, might be worth giving them a call, they will come have a look and quote you,

I also have the missfortune to erm well rip off my A4's acoustic undertray bending the lower bumper in the process, I used a tip off Wrecks to Riches on Discovery Channel,

I used a hot air gun, the plastic has a 'memory' and will return to its original shape, obviously be careful with the airgun, I clamped mine between t planks till it had cooled, job sorted, all nice and straight now.

Cheers, hope this helps

Thanks for all the replys guys. FINALLY got round to having a look (after numpty mechanics had refitted the rocker cover gasket the correct way up and sealed it. Shame my block paving is now black). With the prudent application of a couple of self-tappers, and a little araldite plastic compound, I won't say it's good as new, but it's a damn sight better than it was.

Sorry for the delay in replying, with twins on the way, I have a lot on my plate at the moment. ;)

Alan, Thanks for the link to the oil cleaning fluids. I'll be investing in some once someone can fix my bluddy leak. Got it booked in to Audi next Friday. They had it this Friday for an eval, turns out the muppets I last took it to completely bodged the rocker cover gasket and it is *still* leaking, also the tandem pump gasket is leaking. In addition, the under tray is severely split, so I'm gettin that done too. They quoted me £480 to replace the front bumper!!! So that's not getting done, although I have my eye on a silver one on ebay for £95 at the moment. how easy are they to fit?

BTW, I was dead impressed with Chelmsford Audi. Not only were they polite and courteous, and very informative, they gave me an A3 2.0T Quattro S-Line as my courtesy car! I haven't driven a petrol car in some 7 years, and it was an eye opener!!
