Front Springs

I'm at a loss to finding the correct springs for the correct ride height.

Last year fitted new front suspension with Bilstein front springs, Never checked the colour dots on the old ones.
Any way kept looking at the car and decided front was higher than normal.
Measured with a tape from wheel centres and front was higher.
Cannot take any measurements at the moment due to engine and gearbox not in.

Part number for Bilstein 37-160962 which are being removed.

Build code LO1
TPS had a job but say it should have 2 Red 3 Blue dots so that's 6Q0 411 105 AC.

Ebay seller says its Sachs 993180
7ZAP say 997842/843 Spidan 56631/32.

If anyone can make head nor tail of this then please let me know.
Car is 90bhp Sport without sunroof.

Hopefully someone else won't make the same basic mistake as me.

Your car is the same as mine (TDI90 with solid roof) - the correct Bilstein part number is 37-147679 I believe.

The OE spring part number is 8Z0411105AL

Please check this and let me know if you think this is not correct.

Hi
According to TPS the part number is 6Q 411105 AC This is with 2 red and 3 blue.
But they could be wrong because at first he couldn't find anything on the Reg.
The gap at the rear is around 350mm but its on axle stands at the front, Is that anywhere near your height.

Thanks
David

Interesting - that part number is not a standard A2 part number (8z0....) and yields absolutely zero hits on google.

What gap do you mean? Could you clarify.

The distance from the wheel centre to the lip of the wheel arch.

If you search on 7zap my part number does come up on sports suspension, But as you say trying to find which are the right ones is baffling.
My spring height is 350 from end to end. Not sure if that's how you take the measurement.
Spring- loaded supplied the Bilstein ones.
Ebay seller with Sachs ones 993180 both I think are the same length.
But as I say front was a bit higher.

So if any member with the same model would check there height and what colour dots are on there's. And will then go from there.

Build code L01 has front spring 6Q0411105AC

(1)6Q0411105ACcoil spring
2 paint marks
3 paint marks
also use:
red
blue
6N0 412 249 C
Model data: PR-J24,L01

Bilstein 37-160962 is a one size fits all type of spring, as it is sold to replace four different springs, and will give a high front end.

6Q0411105AC
6Q0411105AD
6Q0411105AE
6Q0411105AP

Bistein 37-160962 will give a high front end

Optimal AF-4770 matches 6Q0411105AC

Sachs 993180 matches 6Q0411105AC

Spidan 85703 matches 6Q0411105AC

Suplex 39205 matches 6Q0411105AC

TRW JCS1054 matches 6Q0411105AC

Sachs 997842 and Spidan 56631 match 6Q0411105AE and will give a high front end.

Sachs 997843 and Spidan 56632 match 6Q0411105AF and will give a high front end.

Never rely on a seller to sell the correct spring. Work it out for yourself. Sellers use catalogues and will simply say that the catalogue says that it will fit your car. Sellers won't tell you if it's a one size fits all type of spring and won't actually match the original spring that came off the car.

Thanks for the post I did read your info on other posts as well.
That is the Ebay seller which I was going to buy from.
But as the car is fitted with the Bilstein 37-160962 and the Sachs ones are the same length it isn't going to solve the issue.

My build code is L01 so in theory they should be right.
I think a lot of spending on different ones maybe the only way.

If two or people have the same model with the same spring colours and ride height then they have got to be right.
I don't think that buying the Sachs ones will change the ride height, But I could be wrong.
Finding the length of the Bilstein ones would help as would the other numbers from them.

Thanks
David

The Sachs version of the 6Q0411105AC is listed at 343mm in length.

The Sachs version of the 6Q0411105AD is listed at 357mm in length.

The Sachs version of the 6Q0411105AE is listed at 365mm in length.

I suspect the Bilstein 37-160962 will be about 365mm in length as a one size fits all type spring tends to match the longest and stiffest spring in the range of springs that they sell it to replace.

Fitting a 8Z0411105AL front spring such as the Sachs 997854 will give you the same front ride height as a 6Q0411105AC front spring, because although the 8Z0411105AL front spring is about 4mm shorter when uncompressed, it is slightly stiffer due to the 0.25mm increase in wire diameter...hence resulting in the same ride height.

I find the best way to measure a spring, is to hold it upright on a table and use a steel tape measure...putting a piece of masking tape on the steel tape measure where the total length is.

If you hold a 6Q0411105AC upright on a table next to a Bilstein 37-160962, I think you will find that the Bilstein is significantly longer...perhaps between 14mm and 22mm longer.

A 6Q0411105AC or an 8Z0411105AL shouldn't give you a high front end on a 1.4TDI.

If 6Q0411105AC is too high, then maybe try a petrol front spring with the same 11.25mm wire diameter, such as KYB RH3243 which matches 6Q0411105AN. KYB RH3243 is listed at 334mm in length.

Thanks for all the info you've been very helpful.
I will measure again and hopefully they are longer than 343mm which would then make the Sachs springs correct.

Have also found that the Spidan 85703 are 342mm long and are suitable with LO1 code.
I couldn't find a actual length on the Bilstein ones tried several websites.

Thanks
David

Bilstein don't list the specifications for their springs, such as length, wire diameter, outside diameter, weight, etc.

Spidan and Suplex appear to be the same springs. Where there's a Spidan spring, there's always a Suplex spring and vice-versa.

Spidan 85703 is the same as Suplex 39205.

There have been a number of early breakages (perhaps within 6,000 miles) of Spidan and Suplex front springs on the Audi A2. I would be looking at alternative brands.

The 1mm difference (342mm versus 343mm) in listed lengths between the Sachs and Spidan/Suplex versions of the 6Q0411105AC may not exist in reality. It's not uncommon for the actual lengths to vary by a few millimetres compared to the listed lengths.

Hello, car went for it's MOT last week, generally all good but failed on a corroded brake line and a crack in he front spring.

My car is a 2002 1.4 SE petrol, can someone link me to a front spring or tell me if this one will be suitable

That ebay listing is for a front spring being sold to replace OEM part number 6Q0411105AC which is for a 1.4 diesel/1.6 petrol

The 1.4 petrol needs a softer front spring than the heavier engined 1.4 diesel and 1.6 petrol engined cars, or the front ride height will be too high and the ride will be too hard.

On the 1.4 petrol, you could use front springs sold to replace OEM part number 6Q0411105AN such as:
Eibach R10344
KYB RH3243
Kilen 10195
Lesjofors 4004258

KYB RH3243 sold to replace OEM part number 6Q0411105AN (front springs for 1.4 petrol)

on our 1.4i we started with a Suplex 03207. One of these however broke in half at a relatively low mileage with no warning.

We replaced them with Sachs 2x FRONT COIL SPRING AUDI A2 8Z0 SACHS OEM 8Z0411105AJ 998404 GENUINE HEAVY DUTY

they are fractionally firmer than the Suplex but give the same (correct) ride height for a non-sport 1.4i with metal roof - drive very nicely paired with Bilstein B4 shocks and 195/50/16 tyres.
