Frozen HID's?

Strangest thing happened today. We havent used Ada in a couple of days, so the car was in need of defrosting before heading off for a drink of diesel.

On the short journey there and back home the DIS warned me with the usual high octave peep that there was a bulb out. The Offside headlamp was cutting out intermittently, however by turning the light switch off and on again this cleared and the headlight came back on - only for the warning to come back again and the light flickered out. As soon as the car warmed up this stopped happening - and there were no problems on a subsequent 2-hour round trip to the airport. I have the 6000k's from carmodshop like plenty other members - anyone experienced similar? :)

Hi Murdo,

With the weather we are having of late, could this be a moisture ingress problem, cured when the filament heats up sufficiently and dries up the water?

Just a thought.

Yes mate,
I've had a bleeps from the DIS,usually when I turn them on.

However I just turn em off and turn em on again and they work fine.

Once I shut whole car off and after that went fine again,so probably not a loose conenction like I thought it was and as such a job for the 'list' when it gets warmer.

Ive had my DRL's fitted over a year with no probs but with all this cold weather
one of Leds keeps turning itself off .....Hope it will be fine when the Warm weather comes back .....

In the end Murdo I got it swopped out without question.
I sent it back and got another different type in its place.
All ok again, other one has had the odd not turning on moment but usually when its colder than -5° and the cars been out on the drive all night.

I had this a similar thing to this and it was the ballast packs.

My original ones were the standard fat ones. Car mod shop now have new slim line ones. I dont think the old style ones were very moisture tight.

Got new slim ones and my lights have been fine, so it could be your ballast packs!!!

With my DRL's the end LED's decided to die and this was due to moisture ingress. Got sent a new strip and completely sealed the backs and ends with polyurethene adhesive glue stuff and they have been fine
