FSI Cambelt Failure - Damage

Looks like the main Gates belt has stripped some teeth - was on the list for replacement next February at five years old…

Has anyone got away without valve damage with a failed FSI belt? I heard only the slightest rustling/tinkling before the engine stopped and it spins over sounding perfectly normal.

Do a compression test, if it’s normal then you escaped.
But you heard a noise then you’ll have bent valves and no/low compression
I hope I’m wrong!

Head off for inspection, only thing to do...
Actually, probably best to do a head referb at this point and inspect all coolent hoses..

Yes, I think it’s going to be rebuild/replace time. Annoying because it’s been properly looked after.

As @George Hogg suggested, it might be worth doing a compression test first, maybe unlikely, but it could save you a lot of work in the event that no damage has been caused…

I reckon five years is probably a tad optimistic............

Very sorry to hear your news and good luck with the repair. Whereabouts are you located?

I very much hope it's not, (optimistic)!
Both the FSI and the TT have been, and will be, done at 5 years, not before.
The TT was on 12 years when I bought it ...
Mac.

I would have changed it sooner if it had done more miles, but it’s happened now.

Car is usually in London, but currently in Yorkshire until I decide what I’m going to do with it (my compression tester is too short to tighten in the coil pack holes, so I’ve left it).
