Check your cam belt and the belt between the 2 cam shafts for correct timing and tension. Sorry that is all I can come up with.

Do you have a Windows laptop that has a USB port. If so buy a KKL cable from ebay and download VCDS Lite from Ross Tech. Far more friendly and easier for us to help you.

Hi George
If this is an option, consider buying the cable from Gendan. Probably better than any 'unknown' quality cables off the bay and they also happen to be the agent for VCDS (think the original recommendation came from ami)

Cheers Spike

That's the cable I use with my registered VCDS lite, it works a treat.

Here is a picture that I shamelessly stole from google images.

The encircled part is the one potentially associated with the error code that you got. Check the wiring near it a and around it for damages. Being a solenoid, it could have amassed sludge owing to non-frequent oil changes and got damaged trying to adjust. A vcds scan would greatly increase your chances of getting this sorted though.

Many thanks, I’ll see who I can get to scan it. Or by the sounds of things bite the bullet and go VCDS!

Thank you, the simplest things! It was the connector that had come loose on that! The clip that holds the connector on has been broken at some point.
Clip missing in first pic, similar connector with intact clip in the second pic.
