Dear Audi owners club,
...I am new to your organisation.
..and I have a very important question that I need answering... I happened to own a 2004 Audi A2 1.4 sport petrol,,,,,,, and need to know if the 1.6 fsi engine is compatible before I buy the engine... A what I mean is can I take the engine out of my 1.4 petrol sport and put the fsi engine in its place... and if so what all will I have to do... like for instance the fsi gear box and or transmission... will I have to replace that with the engine too... or is the gear box from the 1.4 compatible ...and also the fuel system is different.. I believe that the fsi is direct injection..
and the 1.4 petrol is multipoint injection.... are we just connecting a fuel line or is it more complicated than that... the only other thing that I can think about is the cars computer and or e c u... is that something we can figure out or re-programme or do I need the one from the fsi. ..the dimensions of the car are the same ( length, width, height, wheel base, tyre size, ground clearance, and even the front /rear track are the same)... the car is identical... so basically I just need to know if and how I make my 1.4 petrol sport the fsi... if the conversion is possible...please get back and thanks for everything... and if you can't help... would you be able to refer me to someone who might be able to help...
Sincerely,
the fox

Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it, but the cars wiring loom is completely different. You would need to change engine/gearbox as a complete unit and all of the wiring loom from the FSI car with its ECU.

Unless you have a very strong connection to your 1.4 then you would be better off just selling it and buying an FSI in its place.

Basically no, the only real way is if you had a donor fsi which you'd simply change 'everything' over from, a lot of work.

As @Sarge suggests you’d be changing everything, the question I have is why? I’m assuming you have parts (Interior and sport bits rather than SE or base model?) on your car that you want to keep in which case you’d be better moving those parts over to the FSI.
