FSi - No Heat.....!!!

I have had my FSi for almost 3 years now and in all that time it has suffered this problem..... The water temperature guage never rises past the 60 rest point with the fan running, but when it is turned off, it will (but very slowly) show a reading when in traffic conditions and has occassionaly reached the 90 degree position. The water is definately getting up to temperature (pipes and water resevoir checked).... Any ideas welcomed

Also - any recommendations on a clutch change in the south east/surrey area, as the release bearing is starting to make a noise...!!!

many thanks

Hi Chris,

I assume the 0 is a typo and you mean 60, in other words the dash gauge needle normally shows no movement. How do you know the water is 'getting up to temperature'? It seems to me you need a new thermostat and/or temperature sensor. Before any work I would monitor temperature with VCDS as replacing the thermostat/temperature sensor is not that easy on an an FSI (and a possible risk of damaging the thermostat housing).

Yes, sorry it should be 60 - corrected

I have just ordered a new temp sensor as it's the easiest part of the jigsaw to replace, and see if that makes a difference...!!!

thanks

With no heat in the cabin that would suggest replace the thermostat, after all there may be nothing wrong with the temperature sensor and it it is telling the truth that the coolant is far too cool.

Sarge has some new additions to his 'how to' guides about FSI thermostat/temperature sensor replacement and also there is an alternative from the free workshop guide (but I do not know how accurate these are)....

Good luck.
