FSI owners - please check your pipes

Reminds me. I need to check mine for integrity. No water loss (yet) and nice clear coolant.
Did my under headlight earth as I had a couple voltage error codes come up. That had been done previously, but still showed corrosion signs.
That, along with the spares that came with it, the almost new wiper linkage, and decent few spares relating to common issues lead me to believe that one of the previous owners was on here, or browsed the forum as a guest.

This composite part (attaches to top of radiator) cost me £70+VAT three years ago, must be over £100 now :(.

Regarding the above item, does it stay as one assembled piece, or does the ringed plastic part come away from the rubber hose?
I can't see a way of disconnecting the two pieces, and as it turns out it's the plastic part that I need.

Also, I can't reconcile the pipes in this photo with the parts diagram. The ringed part should be number 11, but then are the pipes joining 11 and 29 (these pipes) missing in the diagram? Otherwise what numbers are this assembly?

Good Evening,

It is an under statement to describe the coolant diagram as not clear when it comes to these pipes. Also I have a memory that something is wrong with the diagram here. I need to look to refresh my memory, will come back to you tomorrow.

Having 'looked under the bonnet' I now have a good understanding of the pipes in question. There are two mistakes in the 7zap FSI Coolant diagram. The minor mistake is two pipes are the wrong way round off the lower T junction of the composite affair item 15. The major mistake is the plastic connection item 11 to the radiator has no spigot and pipe to the oil cooler.

I have corrected the diagram, shown below. The dotted line between 11 and 46 (Red arrow) is a fat juicy pipe and why it was not drawn as a pipe and left as a dotted line is really a third error. The oil cooler connection is a T off this pipe, purple arrow.

Your 'top to bottom' pipe shown in your first picture is the pipe identified by the green arrow.

You now say the problem is the plastic connector, item 11 and pound to penny it will be a crack at the base of the small spigot connecting the green arrowed pipe, this has be reported a few times. These small spigots dotted about look vulnerable which proves to be the case with many reported failures.

The red arrowed pipe with its purple arrowed branch and the plastic radiator connector item 11 are a a single part 8Z0121101AD. Unfortunately the orthodox method to replace the plastic connector means buying the lot, expensive either new or used if available, an unorthodox method beckons. I wonder if the connector has an Audi internal part number on it which may may be available separately on other Audi models. Certainly no part number on top, maybe underneath. It seems to me the only way to remove the connector is to cut the securing band of the fat pipe after draining coolant.

Yes, the problem is this spigot to the pipe shown by the green arrow. Someone has replaced the spigot but with a slightly smaller one leading to a long term slight leak which wasn't traced, it was always assumed to be the pipe of death. As they say, assume nothing...

They lined the pipe with something that eventually hardened / cracked which caused a sudden coolant loss. And that's why I initially thought it was the pipe that had hardened.

You've answered my question regarding the entire assembly, as shown in your photo as below in that this isn't normally disassembled and the circled connector isn't available separately, so I don't see any point in separating it. The assembly seems to be available new, £90 (I will find out if it's actually the case) and should be second hand, for now.

The pipe is certainly available new from Audi Tradition which means NLA from Audi/TPS and you are left chasing the odd remaining pipe in the supply part supply network. A candidate for a Rick order from AT for best shipping price but may be a little large.

I should have one there, I haven't read the full thread, but it appears you are looking for the top rad to thermostat pipe for the FSI?
