I see that the 6 speed gearbox conversion has been done on the tdi's.

But Im looking to convert the FSI to 6 speed..

I'm thinking golf FSI 6 speed box should work.

What you think?

I quite sure it’s been done on the fsi also

I think Tony at A2Cars had developed a 6 speed conversion to the FSI box but I'm not aware of cars that have had it done. A complete gearbox change is probably the easier option. How different is the bell housing on a golf 1.6fsi to the A2 fsi. That's a 6 speed box but having owned one I can't remember the ratios being that long.

KWB / PTW gearboxes come to mind - but I can't remember where I saw these being referred to. MQ250 family, they look in pictures I've seen to have a similar sort of shape to the gearboxes used in A2s (ie, when MYP has been pictured for the Tdi 6-speed) but obviously I really am not an expert. Does this look in the ballpark?

VW Golf 1.4 TSI 02S - KWB
1st 3.78
2nd 2.12
3rd 1.36
4th 1.03
5th 0.86
6th 0.73
Final 3.65

The Lupo GTI had a 6-speed gearbox and its block is very similar to the FSI, I think.

does a2 cars........

does he still work on A2's? is he on the group?

The 6-speed FSI conversion (as offered by A2 Cars) was done by a company in Germany. I don't know which company, but @bretti_kivi may be able to shed some light on this.

Hi,

I did a partial investigation on this a couple of years ago.

The 6th gear would add on the end of the petrol gearbox just like the 6th gear conversion for the diesels and an alternative end cover with the extra room is available.

The difference and the hard part seemed to be that the output shaft on the petrol gearbox isn't extendable in the same way as it is on the diesel and no other VAG 6 speed gearbox on any car has the same final drive ratio as the A2 gearbox. Thus, no existing part is available to convert the existing 5 speed petrol A2 gearbox to accommodate the 6th gear. The solution which A2 Cars used from the German company quoted above was to manufacture a custom output shaft which was compatible with the A2's final drive ratio and allowed the 6th ratio to be fitted. This made the upgrade expensive as it required a complex custom part and a full gearbox disassembly and rebuild.

The way I read the German A2 forum article linked above by bretti_kivi seems to me to indicate that the 6th gear was added to the existing output shaft rather than replacing it which is interesting if done that way.

regards

Andrew

I'm sure if there was an easy way to do this it would already have been done. The TDIs have some options, but I can't tell you about FSIs, because I really haven't seen it done other than modifying the ratios.

I don't know how Tony was having his 'boxes modified, but I can probably find out. I know CKR have some options.
