Fuel Tank

This may seem a stupid question, but here goes.

I have a 1.4 SE Petrol with a 30 or so litre tank, is it possible to fit a bigger 42 litre fuel tank and what kind of ballpark price would I be looking at ??

Thanks

Jimmy

Yes, you can fit the larger tank, but for the extra 8 or so litres you get, it's not worth the expense as you will need to change the final fuel lines and the filter system.

All in, budget for about £400-ish.

Cheers,

Mike

I thought I once read that when the A2 had the larger 42 litre tank the exhaust system was also changed. This article writes about the changes: http://www.audiworld.com/news/02/geneva/a2/content2.shtml

At the Castle Coombe meet the other day one of our members was enquiring about stainless steel exhausts and it was mentioned then that the system changed at some point.

BTW, is the A2's fuel tank made of aluminum? I ask, as my previous vehicle started to rust around the tank seams (OK, it was after 8 years or so but I hope to keep my A2 a long time)

or is it when the light comes on?

I have a 2001 1.4 petrol too. The fuel light comes on even if the tank still has plenty. When my indicator drops to the very bottom (long after the fuel empty light came on), I can refill to about 30L or so. It may give an impression of a 30L tank. But my most couraging drive burnt 37L, well after the indicator hit rock bottom. So you may want to see if you really have a 30L tank and not fool by the indicator

Having looked on ETKA, the two fuel tank capacities are 34 and 42 litres (there is a 20 litre version for the 1.2 TDi), so as I said before, if you want to spend a whole load of cash for the sake of carrying around 8 litres more fuel, then go for it, otherwise, get a couple of fuel cans, which at 5 litres each means you'll be 2 litres up on the bigger tank and about £390 in pocket!

Cheers,

Mike
