FYI - Those wanting to install a 2010 RNS-E PU into an A2

Mine is an A3 unit too, but 8P0 035 193 G
2010 manufacture date too, but 21/06
Label says also SW 200 and H05 (is this "HW05" ?)
Apart from that, gloss bezel, media key, aluminum buttons, I don't doubt it's an "MK2", but is it then not suited for coding in A6 mode ?
I've just sourced a Cangate, so anyway, I can go that route...
Apart from the need of an Cangate or not, what does the car type coding issue implies ? Are the features exactly the same ?
Regards,
Fabrice

You need to code it A4 mode as it will pick up speed pulses over CAN in that mode, you will not notice any difference between A6 mode and A4 mode.

You could downgrade the SW to 0150 and try it in A6 mode, but when i have tried G units they simply do not work as the physical input is missing for the speed wire and reverse wires.

Thanks for your answer, Craig :)
So A4 mode and with Cangate.

Did you also connect one/some/all the 3 optionnal wires from the Cangate ? (Reverse, MFSW, PTT)

Thanks :)

I used the MFSW button for a short while, put in an ECO button to use for SdS, but no longer use it as I fitted a MFSW

I used the reverse wire when I had the B unit coded in A4 mode with a cangate to auto switch to camera, but in A6 mode that no longer worked, so just hard wired the RVSL pin to reverse instead.

Thanks Craig :)
Is the reverse wire only useful for the camera issue ?
The navigation unit doesn't need this information ? like the speed signal for instance (to know that the car is riding reverse), or does the speed signal become a negative figure ?

Hi Craig,

Thanks for so much useful information on this (and many other posts)

Dan kindly pointed me to this specific post because I am just about to buy an RNS E.

Do I need to shy away from the later model units?

There is a 2012 unit (Audi A6 S6 RS6 ALLROAD RNS-E navigation MK2 LED 2012 GLOSSY DVD sat nav RNSE-PU) on eBay (there are a few actually)

The link is
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A6-S...ics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item3a7b951e1a

I will also pay for the SDS (£79?)

Plan to buy the Bluetooth unit too.

But the most important thing is to buy the RIGHT RNS E unit (over £500 on the wrong one would be a costly mistake!)

Would you be able to verify that this one is OK?

Do I need to also buy a CANGATE? I plan to fit the MFSW and Reversing camera.

Sorry for all of the questions. Will understand if you are too busy.

Cheers
Steve B

Loving the spec on your signature!!!

Hi all,

I've been reading this thread and I'm a bit confused and I hope you can help me. Will an A6 RNS-E PU work without a cangate? If I have already a working RNS-E Mk1 working in my car, is it just a matter of swapping the headunits?

I have understood that the RNS-E PU units that end in 'G' are a no go because they miss the physical GALA connection but what about an early version such as this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A6-S...ics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item3cda2080a9

Will this work plug and play without a cangate?

Cheers and Thanks for your help :)

They offered such a radio tape recorder. What do you think of her? thanks

Morning,

The Mk1 RNS-E is indeed a great HU. I had one in my commuter for a few years along with an up to date navigation disc, it performed brilliantly.

Earlier this year I further upgraded to the Mk2 RNS-E PU 193G Revision, this was to have the improved LED screen plus the additional features available with the PCBBC Firmware.

If you need assistance in getting this working and fully fitted in your A2 I can help out over the phone/video call if you have access to VCDS. Do you have everything you need to retrofit this, if not I’m happy to assist with links to the additional items you’ll require.

Kind regards,

Tom

Я, наверное, тогда подумаю об этом.
можно сразу искать Mk2 RNS-E PU 193G Revision?

Hi again,

If you’re interested in the Mk2 simple search for ‘RNS-E 193’. The better option is the 2010 193B Revision but there are ways to make the newer post 2010 Revisions to work.

Hope that helps.

If you fit the Mk1 you already have then you can see if you enjoy the look and feel of the RNS-E. Also you can take your time to locate the best prices Mk2 193 item. The additional hardware needed for the Mk2 is the same as the Mk1, thus making the future upgrade quite simple by just plugging it in followed by coding with VCDS.

I’m very happy to assist over google translate or video call if your English is better than my Belarusian if you get stuck.

Kind regards,

Tom
