Gas Conversion?

In general i am suprised that LPG converstions have not become more popular.
With Diesel now the devil and petrol under more scrutiny perhaps lpg will be the next big thing?

Has anybody ever lpg converted an A2?

It has been done
But payback on fuel saving would take a while
Was more popular when congestion charge exempt

I have just passed a service area off the M6 near Stoke-on-Trent. Diesel fuel cost? ONLY 168.9 pence per litre! I had earlier filled my Dacia Sandero Bi-fuel with LPG at 72 pence per litre. A further advantage of converting a petrol A2 to run on LPG compared with owning a diesel A2 are that the action of gear-changing should be much better than the diesel. The fuel is very clean burning and doesn't harm the environment. The duty is very low and I'm pretty sure that it will stay that way. I've just finished converting my Mercedes SLK to run on LPG and the total cost was about £600. I'm sure that I could easily convert an A2 because I've been converting cars to that fuel since the 1970's! What I'd be looking for would be a petrol A2 with OSS and an exception (maybe unique) interior. The car's paintwork would be In a good colour, too. My Dacia is very easy to sell, that's for sure! I'd actually make a profit of several thousand's of £££'s.! The other areas that I could aim to improve on a future owned A2 would be ride quality ..... Coil-overs? Even though I don't own an A2 anymore, I'm still visiting the Forum frequently. Owning the Dacia does show how things have advanced since the A2 was available in showrooms ....But where I feel a little frustrated is that there's nothing for me to buy to improve it! I've just got to use it "as-is" and that's totally alien to me! (I never stopped with the A2, there was always something else to improve, change or modify!)
I've asked the new owner of my A2 to let me know if it was to be disposed-of in the future. I'm sure that I could change the engine to a petrol unit and convert to LPG!

@DJ 190 Hello David, which petrol A2 would you use if you were buying to convert, I presume the 1.4?
Andrew
Hi Andrew I hadn't thought about that! There is a marginal power loss with using LPG and an approximate 20% reduction in mpg but because the fuel is so much cheaper, it still makes converting to LPG viable. I'd probably lean towards the 1.4 but I wouldn't discount the 1.6. It would be which A2 had the most interesting features and knowing how impulsive I can be, I'd be purchasing it first and then thinking what to do with it, later! :)

So no carbon dioxide David? A little bit of greenwash here I think! Dacia also make Europe's cheapest EV!

10% less Dacia say apparently, surprised if it produced any less to the honest.

The article referred is from October 2020
A recent vid possibly Fully Charged? commented that they were costing / reviewing the RHD availability

In France the current incentives make the Dacia Spring around 10k euro
A bit of a no brainer

Shorter hydrocardons chains in LPG compared to petrol mean a greater propotion of hydrogen to carbon, so more water and less CO2 as a result of combustion. Around us, the number of LPG filling stations is diminishing - I had a T4 campervan converted to LPG 10 years ago and it ran really well, but I wouldn't do it now as filling up would be really inconvenient. Sad, as it was a good technology with significant environmental (as well as cost!) benefits over petrol and diesel.

The Morrisons group of Supermarkets do seem to have an LPG facility. I agree that there are less pumps, though ....

David you aren’t that far from a ferry to RoI; they drive on the left and have a steering wheel on the right

Andrew
The Netherlands are in lockdown! I've been there countless times because my Lady is Dutch .... I take effortlessly to driving there and I absolutely LOVE Holland! (I could live there tomorrow but she will never return) There's some very interesting videos on the Dacia on Youtube and I'm hoping that it does come to the U.K. ?

@DJ 190 David my point was RoI: Republic of Ireland

The article you linked reported “hitting the European market except for the UK” implying it would be available in the RoI. Perhaps blinkered, partisan journalism?

In any case that has given me a great idea, and I should see if a bookmaker would like to quote odds: EU to put pressure on, and give huge subsidies to, the RoI to switch to LHD! ?

Friday I will install the GPL/LPG system on my second Audi 1.4 AUA. ( aprox 700 euro). I already have a Audi 1.4 with GPL and is very economical, urban 10.5 % GPL and extraurban 6.7%.
Have you purchased the kit and are you fitting it yourself? What is the make? Do you need a compliance certificate in Holland? What country are you located in? What is the LPG tank capacity? Thanks

David
