Gear Box Selector Cables, Updated.

I don't think it's a spring clutch.
More of a self locking/adjusting retainer.

They are spring hooks, I know this because I dismantle them every day when I work on the car gearbox. What do you think of the ones on AliExpress that I posted?

They look very nice, and cheap, if they are as good as they look.

Question lodged with AT.

I wonder if you can help, or advice on a spare part question for the A2 8Z0 model please.

There are two items that have gone out of stock for some while. This is impacting UK and German A2 8Z0 vehicles perfectly good cars unusable for the want of gear selector cables which have been out of stock for some time. People are trying to find used cables but this is getting increasingly difficult.

I did write about this some time ago, for the same issue and you stated that Audi AG makes purchasing decisions and keep an eye on stock. Nothing has changed these are still not available.

Can you help with a contact at Audi AG, a supplier or any other people who may be able to resolve this. There are several hundred people needing these parts, it would be great if they can keep their cars on the road

Rick

So, this came back...

Hello Rick Harrison

Thank you very much for your email.

As a subsidiary of AUDI AG, we at Auto Union GmbH are responsible for the worldwide supply of spare parts for our Group brands of modern and classic vehicles.

Some of the spare parts and accessories we offer are residual stocks or promotional items that cannot be constantly replenished and are therefore only available in limited quantities or may not be available at all.

The decision on whether and when a spare part will be reproduced lies solely with AUDI AG.

In your specific case, we have already automatically recorded the spare part numbers.

We are always happy to assist all customers in their search for the right spare parts.

However, we kindly ask for your understanding that this may not be successful in every case.

Unfortunately, we do not have a contact person at AUDI AG that we can refer you to.

We appreciate your understanding.
If you have any further questions, please contact us via the chat. We are there for you from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Chat Audi Tradition. Best regards Audi Interaction GmbH, ein Unternehmen der AUDI AG

...which doesn't really solve the problem.

Isn't there a possibility to petition for signatures to issue the string patent for aftermarket companies?

maybe something is lost in translation as I'm not sure what you mean with "string patent", is that the cable?

I'm trying to find an "in" to Audi AG.

I wonder if a high level A2OC approach and JV with A2Freun.de would work? They speak the lingo and together it's a bigger pool of people who need this solving. And it's not going to get any easier....

Forgive my English, I meant shift cables

I've tried numerous times here in Germany to get them to remanufacture parts for the D2 community and the best response I got was that they would pass the request through to "a back office". A "back office" that they cannot correspond with.
As a result, I've given in and I just tell my US and UK customers that I'll get back to them if I spot that a part has reappeared on the Tradition site. Which it has on a few occasions.

But how can they not see the difficulty of finding that part? In the end there are older cars with greater possibilities of spare parts while our A2 seems non-existent.

In essence, with Audi being a profit-seeking organisation, remanufacturing old parts for older cars is unlikely to boost their bottom line.
They CAN see the difficulty in finding parts. I was told by them that they log all the part numbers that are searched for, even when they result in an NLA. And that helps them decide if something should be put forward to be made again. So they know. And they probably care. They just don't seem to care as much as we do.
And it's not just the A2. I mainly get asked to ship parts for the A8/S8 D2 but sometimes I'm asked for old UR quattro parts, S2, RS2, C3, C4, B4, B5 parts etc. and the availablity of the important stuff is just as bad.

But is there no way to get the spare part? I don't know, contacting valeo or other brands?

Today installed the gasoline cable 8Z0711874J on my Audi A2 2005 BHC diesel car. The length of the cable is a little different, but not critical. To do everything well, it is necessary to separate the rubber sheath from the grooves in the cable, so that it could move freely.... and install the cables. After installation, fix the cover in the body (it will find its place by itself).
