Gear selection problems

You don’t happen to have a picture of the ‘breather tube’ do you? I’m not sure which bit this would be and I’ve just covered the tower with Polyurea grease so it’s a little hard to poke around and remains clean just now.

Is that a VW only part?

The bearing is part no. 02A 311 648C and I bought mine from Audi last month, cost £5.70+vat

If you need the seal that sits on top of the housing is 02A 301 227M @ £9.55+vat.

It’s pretty easy to change the bearing, break up the cage containing the little balls and remove, you now have the race. Take a 10mm washer and file the opposite sides down a little so it just slides into the race sideways, then flatten it down onto the race lip.

you can then use a 10mm long bolt or a piece of 10mm studding, some 10mm nuts and a piece of metal with a hole in to to pull the race out.

Hi all.... any help appreciated please.....?. I sprayed a load of GT380 over the gear linkages and into the cable holders. I thought I left everything as I found it BUT clearly not as when I tried to drive the car I had lost gears 3,4 and 5! So I thought i would try this realignment procedure..... no joy - in fact I now have no gears!

I think the bit I am struggling with is locking the selector tower in the right place.... does anyone have any tips for getting this bit right please? How do I know that the selector tower is In the 1st/2nd gear gate? I can’t get the pin to secure the tower in the right place.......

clueless in Machen!!!

Did you follow the instructions to the letter on how to adjust the selector cables? Were both the gear stick and gearbox correctly locked in their positions?
Here is the manual page for the adjustment. 1st / 2nd you push the tower down and as you are pushing down rotate the lever on the gearbox.

Know have all five gears plus reverse back again..... ??. For me the difficult bit was getting the selection tower to lock out - it was much more tricky than it sounds in the instructions. Once that was sorted it was relatively easy to sort it....
