Gearbox codes that fit

Evening all.
I'm looking into another gearbox like as I've had my Jdd give up.
What other gearbox codes will fit and have the same ratios as I love my Jdd .
Does the mzl box fit or has that got the same ratios as the Ewq ?
Any ideas .
Cheers Kraig

Hi, sorry to hi-jack the thread. I'm just about to have a JDD fitted and it's now sitting at my garage but I need a better description of what needs done to the gearbox to fit it (I've heard grind off a mount and add some spacers, but not clear where these are removed/added) also as I'll be replacing the clutch which clutch is required a Polo Bluemotion or standard A2? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

No problem. The dog bone mount will foul so slight grinding is needed here

And I do have the spacers and images as I was going to do a right up but the are on my pc.
One spacer fits between the dog bone mount points which you only use two bolts instead of the three normally fitted .
And the other spacer goes between the gearbox mount and the top and the hanger . On the side of the gearbox. Three bolts that attach your gearbox to the mount right hand side of the engine bay.
I will dig out the pc tomorrow to get you the correct images of those points. And measure up the spacers I made,

I had a look at this question recently with various 7zap pages for the Jxx and Mxx MQ250 gearbox families (2012 onwards Polo / Fabia and also A1 1.6tdi "CAYC" stopstarts) compared with EWQ/GPK (A2 1.4tdi 75) and came up with the following table with certain caveats. Gear is 1st to 5th in order.

JCZ and JDE use the same casing part number as the JDD so assume the same need for a bit of machining as described above to fit. JCZ is similar gearing to the EWQ, JDE is fractionally shorter than normal 1.4tdi75 box. For the Mxx subset, MZM uses the same clutch housing as the MZN ; MZK and MZL clutch housings use a distinct part number but it is quite plausible that differences are negligible and may fit as for the MZN.
MZL/MZM have similar gearing to JDD, with the MZK being similar to the MZN. PHB (2018 Fabia) is similar to the 1.4tdi90 gearbox in ratios and again uses a clutch housing part number common to the boxes that fit (possibly with machining?) so this may be an option although I've not seen it mentioned anywhere yet.

Edited to add - MZMs (same casing as MZN, same gearing as JDD) seem to be pretty cheap on Ebay, sub £200 just looking today.

Please remember that this is a parts-number exercise, not something generated from actual knowledge!

Morning Kraig,

Good luck with your hunt for the replacement gearbox. Happy to assist collection of your search takes you anywhere near Lincolnshire.

If you ever want to practice the 6 Speed Gearbox installation then I have a certain Project 250 here which would be happy to be parked up on your driveway Sir.

See you next weekend.

Kind regards,

Tom

Conversely, anything in Oxfordshire or Gloucestershire could be transported up to Warwickshire very easily as I’m up seeing my folks a lot at present

Hello again Kraig

This auction website listing looks to be the cheapest/nearest MZM gearbox to us, if youre happy with the information on this particular gearbox then I have a work colleague who lives in Mansfield who would collect it and hand it over to me in Lincoln. I could easily swing by on the way home next week to drop it off.

Let me know your thoughts as I’d like to help out if I can.

Kind regards,

Tom

The mzm is looking like the way to go. I shall check out what the mounts look like as that may end up being another that fits up easy like the Jdd

Ok so far I can see two differences from pictures the bolt holes on the mzm below the starter are a little different. And there's an extra plug under the selector tower.

Is it worthwhile asking whoever it was has fitted the MZN what their experience was with compatibility? There is a fair bit of info about the JDD, but not certain what the other differences with these small details may be.

If anyone has another JDD box they have forgotten about I am interested in purchasing it

The red is where it was cut you use one spacer on one of throes holes and a nut on one of the bolts . I'm not 100 % on which way round but I will. Be refitting a Jdd in the next couple of weeks .
IMG_2888.JPG
one space goes under the mount under the dog bone mount point .
IMG_2894.JPG
Nut as it is not threaded on the Jdd box. I will check but it's one of those two holes . When I refit I will document the lot for you all.
