Gearbox noise

Hi Guys

Hope you can help. My a2 has done around 78K and has started to make a slight noise which I'm finding difficult to diagnose.

Basically, when you engage 1st gear and lift off to move away, I hear a slight thud coming from the engine bay. Its not a whine or grind type noise, but sounds more bassy (is there such a word) and it immediately goes away. Its not the shoes grinding on the drums, I have already checked this and dont think its related to the flywheel (re gearbox posts) as this is a 75tdi 03 plate.

Also checked depressing the clutch in neutral and slecting all gears, again no problems, its only when I'm driving off that the thump comes and then goes.

Anyway, I drive of and no problems, gear selection is fine, the car isn't jumping out of gear and there is no vibration, only this thud when I am engagin/ disengaging gears when driving

Doesnt happen in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear,

Any suggestions?
