Gearbox oil change

Well it was draining for a while whilst up on a ramp so at an angle too which I would have thought would help the old stuff flow out.
I'd read elsewhere that 1.6 litres was the amount so had that in mind when filling it up.

Edit: update of level, it was closer to the 1.7 mark that was used but it did take another nearly 200ml approximately so pleased to have it at the correct level. Gear selectors all greased now too.

cool i'll drop into VW then, i get 48% off service parts in there :)

the car is crunching into 3rd when cold. hoping this will help the scyros a bit... maybe not but cants hurt, it's on 149k miles

I had a gearbox oil change today at WOM. The old oil that came out was clear and looked very similar in colour to engine oil. The new oil was a lot lighter in colour and it did make for a smoother gear change on the way back to Yorkshire.

I agree I changed mine when I did the long 5th gear mod 12 months ago, the oil that came out was very dark, no water in it though and no bits either. the genuine VAG oil I refilled with (part number ends in A2) for £6.50 a litre from TPS, two need a little left, oil was clear, and very thin, but is the correct oil and the gear change was much smoother, almost as good as a 1.4 petrol A2, well actually no where near as good, but for a TDI it good (you get the picture)

My turn to try today. Failed at first hurdle in that I realised after taking the under tray off that the hex bit required is maahoosive at 17mm. Tried in vanw to pickup locally so just ordered from Amazon.

Doesnt seem as always to be great access to either fill or drain holes. Assuming the bracket mentioned is this one pictured? I just undo the bolts on the bracket and tilt down out of the way?

Hi I did mine middle of last year, the steel bracket just swings down to give access. Before you undo the drain plug I would recommend loosening the fill plug. You might be in trouble if you drain before you can't refill. Also might be worth checking the dog bone to see if that needs replacing

Completely successfully over the weekend. Got around 1.5 litres of dark brown stinky fluid out, and around 1.8 back in. No idea where the 300ml went.

Gear changes moderately smoother but in my case not a game changer if I'm honest.

I experienced something similar, new oil didn't improve the gear change much.

Check your tower bearings and cable adjustment.

Thank you to everyone here. Just did my TDI 75, took me three hours including a 20 minute test drive.
Couple of siezed bolt issues and getting the undertray back on was a slight pain which added to the time taken.

Weird brownish syrup came out. About 1.7 litres.
Put 2 litres of clear goodness (ordered from Audi Inverness inc two plugs) back in.

Car gear change like melted butter.

HI everyone!!! Is it possible to add a gearbox additive from the top of the gearbox and not from the fill plug for easier access???? Thank you!!

Yes, just remove the selector tower and pour the additive in that way.
There's also a breather on the top of the selector that you may be able to use.
