Gearbox Oil

Hi all,
I'm planning on changing the gearbox oil on my 1.4 petrol when I next change the oil, which should be in the next few weeks. So, I've browsed the forums trying to find something on the petrol models, and I've not found a lot to be honest. I have found that the correct oil for the TDIs 02J boxes is 75W90, is it the same oil for the petrols?
A lot of people have also said to go genuine, which I do usually agree with, but I have managed to find Febi 75W90 for £12 per litre, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Febi oil?
Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam only use Genuine Audi oil !!!!

This is the Part number you need and it cost £20 from Audi for 2 litres

I would agree with the Audi oil, that is the part number for all the A2's
I get it from TPS at £7 a litre (you need 2 off) 1.7 litre to refile

ensure you have the correct tool for undoing the drain and file plugs, there are two types used, early cars had a 17mm hex so you need a 17mm allen key or similar, the latter cars use a 12 point with a pin in the middle
Also ensure the fill plug comes out BEFORE undoing the drain plug :)

That's very helpful, thank you. As for the 12 point, I'm assuming it's the same as a standard 12 point spline bit? I have a set of security splines, so that shouldn't be a problem. When did the socket change?

yes proving the 12 point spline tool has a hole in the middle to take the pin in the drain plug (known as security tools)

I'm not sure, upto 51 plates mainly have the 17mm allen key drain plugs which are made from steel
53 on wards mainly seem to have the 12 point version which is made from aluminium
