German Club yearly meet: 30.7 - 1.8

As you may or may not know, the German club is required by law to have a meeting once per year.

This AGM will be held this year in ... a location which we haven't published yet. And it will be somewhere around Frankfurt. So if you always wanted a reason to stop halfway between the alps and the 'ring, this is it.

The weekend involved is the last one in July. The German club will do a couple of visits to transport-oriented industries and some other stuff, including touristy bits, excellent twisty roads, lots of beer and food and (surprise) talking about cars. There will probably also be someone with a screwdriver in their hand...
I'll also do a guided tour of Frankfurt on Monday 2.8 if there is demand, including a coffee on the 52nd floor (if possible - and it should be), some culture and some shopping.

The Hockenheimring will not be available. However, the A5 is :D

Please LMK in this thread if you wish to join us - or in the real thread over on the German board when it's created. I'll link when it's public.

I think we can and will hit 80 A2s, I'd quite like to see 100. Then we get the Guiness Book of Records man out.... :)

The hotel is both big enough and has enough parking!

I got the PM, but I haven't confirmed the UK section of the trip yet.

I'm hopefully driving down and spending nearly five weeks in Central Europe, maybe working a few days remotely, we'll see. I need to book very soon and will do just that when I can.

Maps reckons 200kms from the 'ring to the hotel for the meet.

In the mean time, my UK trip is confirmed, the ferries are booked, the flights for my family... it's all coming together.

More information is also now published about the meet itself.

The base will be a town called Heppenheim which is around 75kms south of Frankfurt. I used to live near there and will be there again for the preceding weeks, so I will be checking extensively the routes we intend to use. Driver's paradise isn't too far off.

We will be visiting Mercedes-Benz buses in Mannheim on Friday, taking the long way back. We'll probably do the evening meal together at a decent AYCE place.

On Saturday we will have an extended drive around the Odenwald. It will be a competition of sorts - with photos to be taken, objects to be found, stuff to complete and questions to answer. Saturday evening we will grab some food together before rolling off to the Hotel. Total distances involved should only be around 100miles or so.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou....60281&spn=0.082491,0.154324&t=h&z=13&iwloc=A Sunday will be in the Museum Autovision in Sinsheim. The AGM of the club will be held at 11am for members. After that museum, there will be opportunities to check out the Technikmuseum (which is very strongly recommended).
Monday I will be available for a couple of hours for some tours in Frankfurt.

If you are interested - I will not go into the details of the roads in Odenwald, but this is Skye turned up to 11 - then please reply in this thread. The hotel has a contingent reserved, and there will be an option to stay in a Youth Hostel (yes, also for the oldies) for those interested in keeping the costs to a minimum.

There is a 90%+ probability that a photobook will be made again. I will also be shooting "Action" for the 2011 Calendar (as in the UK on the 26th). So if you want to turn up a day early, you are more than welcome - I'd really like some great pics and I can only do them with models.

looking forward to seeing some of you there! I know at least one other northerner is looking to make the trip.... it would be great to see some UK faces!

A reminder that the closing date on this is in three weeks. Ferries are cheap and this is an experience you won't forget in a hurry. English really isn't a problem, and if you want to test vMax....
