just had the above on car and did a diagnostic and said rear brake switch so ive bought 1 whats best way to replace as looking how to remove the lower panal under steering wheel does the kick plate need removing as there a screw holding it on by bonnet catch release

I've had that on my old one - got the switch bought and it just recovered and never was a problem before (the middle LED Brake light stopped working briefly) and another time a bulb needed replacing.

Might be worth checking bulbs as well if it is an older model as it could be just that?

To remove the "drivers storage" you remove the bolts, one of which is hidden above the right foot guide panel. If you use blutak or chewing gum on the end of the bit, you can carefully push the top of the guide panel towards the outside of the car. The screw is then visible and can be removed while stuck to the bit. The service flap release clips onto the cable and is easy to release, also unclip the OBDII socket to allow the panel to be fully removed. Slide the seat all the way back if it isn't already and place a cushion or pillow on the drivers door sill to pad your back. On your back head under steering wheel you will see the switch at the top of the pedal. There are lots of sharp edges up there so wear gloves. Twist the switch to remove and disconnect the loom. Pay attention to any instructions that came with the switch. Refit is the reverse. CHECK the switch / lights are working BEFORE you refit the storage panel. If OK finish rebuild. Note the glowplug light may still be flashing (not all cars). What you need to do is drive the car a few hundred metres and apply the brakes a couple of time while doing so.
