Glow plug light flashing and brake lights not working

I am sorry if this question has been asked before but there is nothing in the owner's manual that explains this. I recall seeing an explanation on this forum or elsewhere. The car runs perfectly and was serviced less than 1,000 miles ago. Should I start by replacing the brake light bulbs or just get the ECU diagnosed? Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Yip, start with the bulbs, a scan would probably show that the brake switch is at fault and is a bit of a pig to get to at first but is doable with a bit of advice, you should find an how to on here.

I had the same thing, except I was doing 70mph on the A14 at the time.It was as imola yellow has said.Best get an assistant to help check brake lights.I bought a Febi Bilstein switch,it was a simple job but a bit tricky to get at

Thanks to you all for the responses, which are really appreciated.

Tony (aka Imola Yellow), "575,000 miles and counting" is stunning. You should ask Audi to give you your money back so they can prove to people how good their cars are!

Thanks again.

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't think they care how good A2s are.?

Ahh, this is interesting! The Devon car has had its immobiliser cut out, so that light is up on the dash. But, the glow-light is also flashing and there's a brake warning (yellow brake disc thingy) in the display. I had assumed the glow plug was part of the immobiliser and the brake was a fluid / vacuum / pad thing.

I'd like to add that the battery light is also up, so the whole effect is most attractive at night

From the Audi site here is a list of dash warnings and meanings.

Not all are relevant to us.

Ah, thank you, t's alternator light then, I wonder if it could be as a result of it standing for so long.

More to the point, I'm miles off having the full set: almost feel disappointed ?

Just to report that I have had the brake light switch replaced and everything is back to normal. I don't understand why the glow plug light flashes when the brake switch is the issue. I would never have realised it without trawling through this forum and then telling the mechanic that I thought this was the problem. It could have been a much more costly exercise otherwise. Many thanks again.
