Glue for Votex kit

Hi Alex,

I'm just about to tackle fitting the Votex to Flipper, any hints or tips you'd suggest after fitting yours?

Thanks,
Iain

Thanks People.

I wouldn’t know how to contact Steve B. I thought he didn’t come on here anymore?

TT Ronal indeed. With 205/50 R16 tyres. I bought them from a member on here but they did have a bit of corrosion also the slowest DIY refurb in the history of the club.

Steve B does still drop in from time to time. If you enclose a picture in a PM to him he will see it eventually.

Great idea! Message sent.

Iain, my advice would be to maybe do all the things I didn’t and, maybe a couple I did.

You’ve had yours painted so I imagine they’ll be in good shape but mine had a couple of buckles so I had some extra washers and stainless screws on hand. The Audi trim fitting ones weren’t long enough for the side trims in the arches so have some 25-30mm screws for there.

The front and rear parts clip on and hold themselves in place no problem, the sides need help to stay up so a friend is good (I lacked one of these so struggled and made a bit of a mess with the Tigerseal on the trim. I squirted it along the bottom of the top edge in the hope it would squish downward but it brushed the body. A quick rub with ipa removed it.

You need wheels off - I had to do two at a time but all four would be better. This is just to screw in the wheel arches - I maybe could have managed with a little ratchet but don’t thinks so.

I stuck them on with Tigerseal and put the screws in then put packing tape tightly across the kit and into the door arches with some rags to fill the gaps - particularly at the rear door - then closed all the doors so they pushed on the tape and held the kit really tight against the sides of the car then left it a few days. I used isopropyl to dissolve the glue residue when I removed the tape.

When it was warm I fixed the undersides so that they could flex into place. The side skirts I used a couple of large washers and fixing screws instead of what I presume are the original fixings (which are in the right place)

Mine was a bit of a mess and I’ll be busy with sanding and skim filler and paint to get t looking right but my paint is already pretty rough. Your car is in much better shape so I image you’ll be a lot more careful than me.

I also sealed the jacking point covers in place and bought a new jack. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck.

I already have the car up on 4 axle stands ready for the big install, I had to remove the kit from the donor car so knew that would need to be done so that's all in place ready to go.

I might have a dummy run at fitting the side skirts before I fit them for real with the tigerseal. I've got an extra pair of hands on standby cuz the thought of dropping or scratching my freshly painted kit doesn't bare thinking about ? Did you find the side skirts wanted to open up away from the car when you were fitting them or not that bad?

I was planning on attaching cable ties to the jacking point covers then onto the skirts with small screws and the tigerseal so if you had a puncture at the side of the road you could still use the jack in the boot ?

Thanks

The side skirts didnt gape too much but it was enough that the back door clipped one - mine were a little buckled after being stored on end for a couple of years. When I pulled the bottom edge into place they gaped a lot however.

The packing tape and pressure from the doors left nice small gaps which I figured would be easier to hide and paint so I felt it was a good thing to do even if not totally necessary.

I bought a scissor jack to go in the boot in case of a puncture. I’ve got tyre weld, Audi goop and a space saver in there anyway and I’ve had the car fall off the Audi jack before so I decided an extra few kg was weight well spent and the gaps around the jack covers look better filled I think. I did recess the fill to keep the impression of the shapes and left the bottom open for drainage... we’ll see how that goes.
