well this is the shortest time I've ever owned (or rather not owned) a car....

Bought my lovely A2 last tuesday....

Discovered it was cloned and retuned to the police less than 1 week later...

Now majorly out of pocket and need a car by monday - oh boy... not good

As I've told you privately Paddy, I really feel for you.

I just hope that you eventually get compensated by the bast*rd that ripped you off.

**** paddy thats terrible! i went to see an A2 in north london last week before i bought mine and when i checked the VIN it didnt match the documents so i walked away... i hope it wasnt the same car, i reported it to the police immediately the reg was VK02BBF but it was actually an 01 car...

b*****ds mate i hope they catch them, what are the police saying do you have much recourse?

same reg no. different car - that one has been cloned 3 times - This one the docs did match the vin - except the VIN was a fake too....

Drink yes - and lots of it - Trying to find a replacement A2 in the time allowed is not really an option....

Oh well... Here's to having a poor replacement...

and a round of applause to wayside MK who having been asked to "check this out" failled to spot it was a moody one!

no not from wayside but a small independant trader....

very gutted - especially as I need a new car by monday!

What do you think :)

First point of call - interestinly I couldn't get through last night as he was at a police station ?!?!

P.s. Stand alone - see PM...

Paddy,

Just a quick post before I return to work from lunch to add my name to the list of A2 owners who feel for you.

I hope that any claims you make against the dealership are upheld, you receive a full refund and take the plunge again and buy another A2.

I agree totally with ULP and second his comments on buying a cheap run around until the monetary issues are resolved.

Hope that the robbing b*****d gets a lengthy spell at her majestys pleasure!!

Good Luck!!:)

hi paddy, you should have no problem in getting your money back if it was purchased from a dealer.

also a quick question for everyone.
does a hpi check before purchasing a car even one sold privately, protect the buyer from this sort of thing even if the documents and vin match, but something turns up later?

what hpi company would you guys recomend?

thanks.

No dealer - it was from an "independent trader" - or as it now transpires (thanks to stand alone) a robbing *&$%£&@ who found his mistakes with standalone and then had time to correct them before I saw the vehicle -

Have to give a round of aplause (the second of the day) to....

1. The wallys at Wayside MK who have just phoned me to check that the car is ok following the work I had done - (despite going in this morning to tell them they had failled to spot the moodiness)

2. The Met police who despite being told that this guy was selling a "clone" did not act in the 10 days before I parted with my cash! Hurrah for the met!

With HPI you can include both the VIN and the serial number of the V5 - the only way this can be got round is if the v5 was also stolen.... This I think is the only way you can get your guarantee from HPI

yes it does but you need to provide them with lots of info, they will never advise you to buy a wrong'un they are too careful. www.hpi.co.uk are the best to use.

Hey Paddy's really sorry to hear of your situation, man thats really bad!! :( Hope you find a speedy resolution to it all...and a new A2!!!

Re vehicle checks: before I got my A2 I got indemnity insurance through the AA. If you provide the VIN and reg etc they do an ownership check, accident check etc. If after you buy the vehicle it turns out there are problems your fully covered. It cost me about £22.00
