Very sad but inevitable. I read that Rover made 16.3 cars per employee per year, against Nissans 300.
I have owned many cars from the Rover group or it's ancestors, the Metro had to be the worst, with the tailgate closed it was possible to lay inside and shake hands with someone outside. I know it seems impossible, this was a new car, main dealer supplied, he didn't believe what we said so we proved it. I also had a "talking" Maestro, all we ever heard constantly was "gatery needs charging" Poor quality eventually killed the company, and that's before we mention the All Aggro, and Princess etc.etc.
Why did we buy them? National pride that's why, thankfully we have all grown up and realised that jap crap wasnt so after all. When Jap cars provided almost everything as standard, BMC were still listing even the heater as an extra. At least any idiot could take a Brit car apart and put them back together. I was one of those idiots!
Sad indeed for the workforce who no doubt would have liked to produce quality, they suffer, not poor management.
Oh well, it'll have to be a TVR, an acquaintance of mine owned a new one, but that's another (sad)story.
I am sure that in years to come we will hear what relly went wrong.
