Goodbye to our A2

The sad day has arrived. Our little A2 tdi Sport 90 is leaving us, with a replacement car arriving shortly. Although this was my partners car, it has been our family car ever since our daughter arrived 11 months ago.

I have to say we will both really miss it - there is nothing on the market to replace it that's anything like as good. We've looked at everything, but my partner has decided on an A Class Mercedes (not my first choice, but she's the boss) 180 diesel.

The A2 has taken us all over the country and only ever let us down once when the turbo had to be replaced under warranty. It did numerous trips to Ikea and the airport and I am still amazed at what you can fit into the back.
I was also always amazed at how powerful it was - it embarrassed several Gti types on a regular basis and earned itself a couple of speeding tickets... it went round corners like it was on rails as well.

I think I'll have some bits and pieces for sale shortly, including 2 newish wheels which I never got round to putting on (the other half was a big fan of "feeling" the kerb with the alloys), so my history of posting hasn't yet ended!

Feeling quite sad...

A sad day indeed.

I keep getting itchy feet myself with two years of ownership under my belt, but the things you refer to in your post, coupled with the money I have spent modding and add to that the enjoyment that I still get from the car - means that 'thinking' is as far as I have got.

You are right that there isn't much in the way of a direct comparison/replacement and if I ever find myself selling up then it will be for something totally different.

Good luck with the 'A' Class. My wife has a '54' plater which isn't in the same league as my A2, but then few cars are.

Cheers,

Darren

I think you should be attending confession this week and also start thinking about a course of counselling!

Shame on you Darren!!!

Cheers,

Mike

Forgive me Father for I have sinned...

The two year itch is overdue Mike and if I am to be honest I miss a more powerful engine and the extra torque and refinement that goes with it. That said, I love the A2 to bits and with the huge amount of enjoyment and pleasure still on offer, the money that I have invested in my little car and if I add to that the excellent running costs; then the A2 is hard to beat and will remain for some considerable time yet. Besides, I enjoy the full ownership experience too much and that includes this club of course. ;)

The A3 Sportback 2.0TDI, (140 or 170), is on hold... for now.

Cheers,

Darren

P.S. Aps to 'FiveLittleFish' for thread high jacking!!

You'd regret it - the grass isn't greener...

I know!!

The Merc would be the one making way for any new car and that would mean passing my A2 onto Di. Whilst this would mean that I would still get to drive it, that would be my downfall... I know I would end up wanting it back - LOL!! :D
