Information Got water in the battery compartment - these are the culprits!!!

Brilliant! i'll be glad when that and the Brake pad warning light is done so I can concentrate on the more fun stuff!

No,

But they seem a good enough price as an individual buy (I think they were £44 the pair?)

Worth asking Tom at Crewe Audi if a group buy could be sorted out

You don't necessarily need new vents but you could try sealing the old ones. Photo of a sealed vent here:

I just used Dow Corning 781 in black. Apply the mastic then spray with a water/fairy liquid solution and smooth with your finger dipped in fairy liquid.

Got a wet boot and the vents are cracked, I can't find them locally so going to go form lots of sealant and see how it goes. Where can people get them from as I can't source them - 4A0819181A

Still looks available from Audi/TPS, seems to be used on the Q7. Choice on eBay as well.

ordered one from Audi Preston, my bodge repair did not work and even with sealing all around the vents it leaked so it must be getting in some where through the vent flaps or casing.

So the vents are in and the battery compartment is no longer wet but the trim above the battery compartment is. I think the right hand boot channel got broken when there was a rear shunt in the past and it’s dropping in somewhere from that.

Part is outlined in yellow and it’s cracked where it’s outlined in red.

I am breaking a car can remove it if you like,

I saw your tread on Face book, Started to remove but stopped as you said you fount the vent as the issue, can remove on Saturday.

Are you sure it is not getting in past the light cluster? Have you tried to adjust the tailgate position? No silly springs on the gas struts are there?

The only holes in the back of the car are where the electric cables run through at the top, the tail light hole, the vents lower down behind the back bumper and a small grommet in the same area for cars with PDC rear bumpers.

There won't be a leak because of that black plastic panel.

Cheers for the advice. I’ll start at the top and work my way down adding grasses to each of the points of water access to see what might be allowing water in to wet the trim but not into the battery compartment

Vents on my other half's car were sealed a few months ago. Battery compartment was dry at the time and I've never seen evidence in this car of water under there.

When sorting out a low battery charge issue this morning (it's been frosty here for the last couple of days) I found that there was about a centimetre of standing water in the bottom of the battery compartment. Managed to suck & sponge it out, when give it all a proper wipe down to dry it off.

Noticed that the wall and floor of the battery compartment were actually physically cold to touch - ie much colder than the current air temperature at the time, and atmospheric moisture started misting up on the surface, then coalescing into droplets and running down the wall again into the floor. I have a suspicion that when the fuel tank gets chilled, this can then cause the battery compartment to become an area within which interior condensation accumulates (the a/c hasn't been functional since last year ; replaced the dud pressure sensor but need to get a regas) in cold conditions, as well as any other drain / opensky / door seal issues that may be encountered.

I've got a slight dampness which could be condensation but I wonder if the light cluster needs a check and I'll lubricate & clean the seals to make sure the seal is good.

This is great.
I have got some 'dumb dumb sealer' type stuff to have a go once the weather is more clement.
