Handbrake tray fitting

I'm in the process of trying to fit the double din handbrake stowage tray to my single din A2. Have been following the guide linked here: https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/fitting-audi-front-stowage-console.3416/

I've reached step 10, removing the metal and plastic lugs. The metal lugs came off with a little bit of brute force however the plastic lugs don't look like they would come off. Before I permanently damage a slightly rare handbrake tray, the plastic lugs highlighted in my image below don't actually seem detachable? Should I saw them off or is this a case of needing to pull harder?

If you are just fitting this tray onto a single din tunnel cover then you will have to cut slots, 5 I think. Fit the clips into the slots, then the tray clips on top.
Its a bit of a faff marking where to cut the slots... chain drill then connect with a stanley knife to form a slot. Make the slots slightly longer than required, to give adjustment.
I did one last year on Bean, and now have another to fit to Spud.

Cut the slots and fit it properly. If you want to sell it on later it will still be complete and worth more.

I agree about this way being better for the re-sale aspect of the tray.

I took the opposite approach, that I was more likely to acquire another A2 and want to sell this one, but keep the goodies I'd acquired to transfer to the new one. So I didn't want to cut up the central tunnel/console. This was in the days before I knew how to replace it, something I could now easily do. And as it happens, I have now got a second A2 but it also has a handbrake tray, and I'm showing no signs of passing the first one on :D
