Hatch Release Button, Parts?

The manual release button has stopped working, the remote is fine, so the solenoid is OK. Should I get any parts together to fix it, before I embark on the trim removal? I'm assuming there's a micro switch beneath the rubber boot.

There is a metal bit that can fall off if the rubber cover has worn. It is the bit that makes contact to the switch.

If memory serves me right that is!
